ATV racers
take to
the track
For the fourth year running, CRC Pro-
ductions will be bringing their All Terrain
Vehicle (ATV) racing organization exper-
tise to the fair.
Aside from organizing the races at the
Hully Gully track, CRC is responisble for
organizing races for about six different
fairs per year.
Chuck Collins, President of CRC, is ex-
pecting this year's racing to be a crowd
pleaser. "It will be pretty fast paced ac-
tion," he said.
Anywhere from 45 to 70 racers are ex-
pected to take part in the races. Mr. Col-
lins expects some will be coming from the
United States, along with local riders from
Lucknow, Mitchell, and Clinton.
Some of the local racers will include
Paul Farquhar, Curtis McCone, Steve
Taylor, Rob Thompson and Jason Hayter.
Approximately 12 different classes will
be taking part in the races. Of these dozen
classes, six will be modified or suped up
machines, five are expected to be stock
classes and one will be for beginners.
Different races will be run within the
classes according to engine size. The sizes
will include 200, 250, 350 and 500 races.
Before the races can get underway, the
people from CRC will be busy setting up
the track. After six truck loads of dirt are
dropped off, Mr. Collins said it will take
from two to two and a half hours to get the
track set up.
The dirt is dumped and molded on the
racetrack at the Clinton Community Park.
Once it is completed it will cover the
straightaway in front of the grandstand,
and carry a bit past the grandstand at each
end.
To challenge the riders, and provide the
spectators with some entertainment, Mr.
Collins explained the truckloads of dirt will
be formed into, "about four jumps, a few
stutter bumps, some woop-de-does, and
straightaways and corners."
The winners in the stock races will take
home trophies, and those that win in the
modified categories race for 100 per cent
payback.
In last year's races, Mr. Collins won all
three mod classes. Other local riders who
did well included Jeff Chuter, Steve Taylor
and Paul Farquhar.
The riders will be taking to the track for
their practice sessions at 6 p.m. on the se-
cond night of the fair, June 6. The races
will follow at 7 p.m.
