Edna Cantelon
celebrates 100th
HURONVIEW - An open house, a visit
from church members, greetings from Her
Majesty the Queen, Her Excellency the
Governor General Lincoln Alexander, MP
Murray Cardiff and the Honorable Jack
Riddell have helped Edna Cantelon
celebrate a rare occasion.
On May 14, Mrs, Cantelon will turn 100
years old.
Mrs. Cantelon was born in Stanley
Township and married Roy Cantelon in
March of 1919. The couple had two boys,
Raymond and George. Raymond now
resides in Stanley Township with his wife
Edna and George is living in Tuckersmith
Township with his wife Doris.
Mrs. Cantelon helped her husband with
the farm and then retired to Clinton in 1957.
In 1979, Mrs. Cantelon moved to Huron -
view where she has been well enough to look
after herself up until the last six months.
An open house was held for families and
friends on May 10 with a good,turnout, plen-
ty of cards and flowers.
To help make her actual birthday date
special, members of Wesley -Willis United
Church are planning to pay a special visit to
Mrs. Cantelon.
Mrs. Cantelon has six grandchildren and
10 great grandchildren. She was predeceas-
ed by her husband.

Visitors attend United meeting
CI,INTON - The Afternoon Unit of Ontario
Street United Church was held with 28
members and two visitors. Vera Mac-
Donald, the leader, opened the meeting with
a poem on Mother's Day.
The meeting was turned over to Kay
Elliott and her group. Kay opened the devo-
tions with a poem and all sang with Leila
Johnston at the piano. Scripture was read by
Edna MacDonald. A reading was given by
Kay and Ruby read a poem.
The offering was taken by Lula and
dedicated by Kay. Kay then asked Ida
Godkin to speak of her recent trip to Mexico.
She stayed at Los Cobos. She told of their
food and said they were very happy people.
There were also poor people who lived in
shacks. She was thanked by Kay and Vera
MacDonald.
The minutes of the last meeting were read
and adopted. There were 10 home and 12
hospital calls. The treasurer's report was
given by Lula.
Flowers are to be placed in the church by
members of the Afternoon Unit for the
month of May. Gertrude read a letter from
the Unit's Foster child.
Vera MacDonald closed with prayer. A
social hour and lunch was served by Valema
and her group.
Residents travel to Walkerton
HURONVIEW - Bruce Haven, Walkerton
invited Huronview residents to their Spring
Bazaar and tea on Thursday. It was a nice
drive and the residents enjoyed the sunshine
and scenery on the trip over. After shopping
and lunch at Brucely Haven, the residents
took another route home, stopping at a craft
shop and for a huge ice cream cone.
Friday found the residents gathered in the
auditorium to celebrate Mother's Day.

MRS. BERVA ARBUCKLE of North
Bay and formerly of London and
Clinton died on Saturday, May 9,
1987. Funeral service was held on
Tuesday. May 12, 1987.
for the sampling. All the baking was done by
the residents in the craft room and they cer-
tainly did an excellent job.
Edna Cantelon was honored by her family
and friends at a 100th birthday party on
Sunday.
Old tyme music was held on Monday
afternoon. Also on Monday some of the men
from Spruce Meadow went to try their
hands at catching some fish. A picnic lunch
was provided by the kitchen.

June Irving
June Irving of RR1 Brunner, died on May
8 at Stratford General Hospital. She was 59
years old.
Mrs. Irving was the kindergarten teacher
at the Milverton Public School for over 17
years and she was a member of St. Paul's
Lutheran Church, Moserville.
Mrs. Irving was the daughter of the late
Edward Miller and the former Rose
Dempsey.
She is survived by her husband, Mel, two
daughters, Cathy of Stratford and Mrs. Mar-
tin (Brenda) Broadhagen of RR1 Brunner;
and one son, Norji nan at home.
Also surviving are two grandchildren,
Curtis and Cedric; 9ne brother, Reg and his
wife Florence of Clinton; three sisters, Mrs.
Clarence (Jean) Perdue, Mrs. Al (Gwen)

Words can never adequately express our sincere
thanks to all our families, friends, and
neighbours for the many acts of kindness and
compassion shown to Hugh and our family during
these past few months. The food sent to the
house, the flowers, letters, the care of the
children, and just being there when we needed
someone to talk to, made a very difficult time
more bearable for all of us. Thanks to Rev.
Bechtel for his comforting words, the Huron
County Homemakers, and the ladies of
Holmesville United Church for the lunch after the
funeral. To Dr. Street and the nurses and staff of
Clinton Public Hospital, a special thank you for
going beyond the call of duty in your care of
Hugh. Your compassion and caring made his last
few weeks easier to bear as we knew he was
surrounded by the friends and family who meant

CatScan fund of the Stratford General
Hospital.
William Hugh McCabe
Mr. William Hugh McCabe of Goderich
died at Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital on Sunday, May 10 at the age of 88.
Born in Goderich Township on February
22, 1899, he was the son of the late William
John McCabe and the former Martha Amila
Young.
Mr. McCabe was a farmer in Goderich

Lloyd Rowat and his family sincerely thank all
those who expressed their sympathy by sending

pressed their condolences during the visiting
hours and the funeral of our dear wife and
mother Leone Rowat. We also sincerely thank
Dr. Rodney and the nurses of the Seaforth Com-
munity Hospital for their special care, kindness
and support during her long illness prior to her

The funeral service was held at the Mc-
Callum and Palla Funeral Home on Tues-
day, May.12 with Rev. John D.M. Wood of
Victoria Street United Church officiating.
Interment in Maitland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Don Sproul, Joe Durnin,
Cecil Pollock, Carman Pollock, Gordon
Pollock and Elwyn Pollock.
