Clinton News-Record, 1987-05-13, Page 9Hensall prepares for community garage sale HENSALL — And so will you - take shape, that is - if you plan to cover all the sale sites schedules for Hensall's Third Annual Com- munity Yard and Garage Sale and Mer- chants' Sidewalk Sale. The date is May 23, and once again Hen- sall residents and merchants pull out all the stops to create a fullday of bargain hunting fun. The format of this year's event has been expanded to include an Early Bird Firemen's Breakfast, to begin at 7:30 a.m. at the fire hall. The Hensall Block Parents Association, in co-operation with the Hen- sall Co -Op Nursery School, will sponsor a lunchtime barbecue for shoppers. The ,bake sale by the Ladies Division of Hensall South Huron Agricultural Society will offer a wide variety of home made treats and local delicacies. And for the kids, the newly renovated community playground will be open, so mom and dad can take a leisurely stroll through town and shop the many sale locations.' Downtown merchants will feature nurnerous sidewalk and in-store specials, and the many yard sales. The sales start at 9 a.m. so come early and plan to stay long enough to experience a full dose of 'Hensall Hospitality'. This annual event, co-sponsored by the Hensall BIA and the Economic Develop- ment Committee. In case of rain the event will be rescheduled for the following Satur- day, May 31. Business at St. James' By Blanche Deeves MIDDLETON - Mor.ning prayer was held in St. James' Middleton Anglican Church on Sunday with Rev. Aubrey Bell officiating with Ron Greindanus at the organ. Don Mid- dleton and Aaron Welsh presented the offering. Yes the Apple Blossoms will be out for the Apple Blossom Ham Dinner at St. James' Anglican Church on May 13. They have about a dozen tickets yet for the 5 p.m. seating. 6:30 p.m. tickets are sold out. Please note - The ACW of St. James' Mid- dleton will meet at the church hall at 8 p.m. not at Marion Smith's home. Please bring an item for the auction. The KlompenFeest Ecumenical Service will be held May 17 at 3 p.m. in the Clinton Arena. Also, on May 17 at 3 p.m., a Healing Ser- vice at St. James' Middleton. - AT LEAST Clean-up also includes getting the gardens in shape, as Tyler Nichol discovered. Tyler is a Grade 1 student at Vanastra Public School, and the school held a clean-up day on May 8 so Tyler did his bit. (Anne Narejko photo) Kippen WI plans for their upcoming year The Kippen East Women's Institute ex- ecutive met at the home of coordinator Margaret Hoggarth May 5 to plan the meetings for the coming year. President Grace Drummond chaired the evening, while Secretary Helen MacLean filled out the program sheets for September 1987 to June 1988. The committee convenors put forth many varied and interesting ideas. The women's institute is open to all women interested in home and country. Kip - pen east meet every third Wednesday even- ing in the month. UNITED CHURCH NEWS Christian Family Sunday was observed May 10 in St. Andrews with Rev. Lorne Keays presiding in the pulpit. His sermon was entitled "Christian Family Sunday". The choir presented their ministry of music with the anthem "We have this mo- ment today".
