The couple, along with their two sons, came from Holland on April 15 after visiting Canada last year. They officially took over the store on April 30. (Anne Narejko photo) Family from Holland are new Dutch Store owners By Anne Narejko CLINTON. - A six week holiday was enough to persuade the Van de Vusse family to pack up their belongings and try a new life and career. The new life the family from Holland has chosen will be led here in Clinton. The new career will be as owners of The Dutch Store. Nies and Ton Van de Vusse came to Canada last year to spend six weeks visiting Nies' relatives and seeing the country. After visiting in Milverton, they rented a trailer and saw various other portions of Canada. "We liked it here in Canada so her ( Nies' I sister looked around and heard this store might be for sale," said Mr. Van de Vusse. ..And here we are." The couple have two boys, ages 12 and 16, who are now attending school. This task has turned out easier than they had anticipated. "They find it different, but not difficult," their parents said. The family finds Clinton to be a nice place to live and are pleased that there are "many, many Dutch people here." However, being an owner of a store was something the couple had not considered before the opportunity came up. "We never thought we'd own our own business," said Mr. Van de Vusse who was a chemical technician in Holland. As far as their plans for the store, they do not anticipate any major changes, but hope to keep the store and stock the same, offer- ing the same quality the previous owner, Freda Snieder, did. The hours of the store will also remain the same, being open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mon- day to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. women Today receive $13,50O grant Women Today of Huron County will receive a $1:3,500 grant from the Ontario Ministry of Health to produce a video and support material for a project dealing with health promotioi for rural women, Jack Riddell. MPP for Huron -Middlesex an- nounced on May 11. Making the announcement on behalf of Health Minister Murray Elston, Mr. Riddell said the grant will help the group to design, produce and distribute a video and package of material for its Women Being Well project. Earlie- this year another provincial government agency, the Women's Direc- torate, agreed to provide 815.000 towards the $28,500 project. "The provincial government is very sup- portive of this project as it will increase community awareness of women's health issues and encourage women to take respon- sibility for their own health," Mr. Riddell said. The video and accompanying material will allow groups of individuals to explore the profile of self-help groups for women in Huron County, as well as the health promo- tional protential of such groups. it will also allow examination of the way that Women Today co-ordinates and assists the forma- tion of these groups. Mr. Riddell said Women Today is a well recognized group that helps rural women to (earn to help themselves. The organization works closely with other health service pro- viders in Huron and Perth Counties.
