The festival is organized and sponsored by the Hanover -Walkerton branch of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association and the Walkerton Rotary Club. Walkerton Rotarians have begun the fund raising campaign to help finance these daily sessions. Chairman of the Scholarship and Patron Committee, Cliff Buckingham said, "This festival enables over five thousand musicians,. novice and accomplished, from surrounding counties to have their skills and progress assessed by highly qualified ad- judicators, and to obtain performing ex- perience. As the calibre of musicianship Don't wait to purchase Festival ticket BLYTH - May 4 is fast approaching - that's the date when tickets to the Blyth Festival's 13th season go on sale to the general public. changing their vouchers for tickets, and group orders are being taken, but from May 4, the Box Office is open to single ticket sales as well. Last year was a boom year for the Box Office - voucher sales were up 50 per cent and group orders doubled. 1987 looks like it will be equally busy. "I'm tremendously impressed with the loyalty and trust.of the Blyth Festival au- dience," said new general manager Tim Chapman. "We're doing four completely new plays this year, plus a repeat for 1986. This is much riskier than putting on a pro- duction that has already been a hit, say, on Broadway. From the Festival's earliest days, our audience has shown that they like new Canadian plays and this is very en- couraging to me. They don't wait to see what the reviews are like before buying tickets - they are willing to take a chance on us because they know from experience that the results are well worth it." Interest in the five plays being offered at Blyth this summer has been evenly spread with Bordertown Cafe by Kelly Rebar in the lead, closely followed by Miss Balmoral Of The Bayview by Colleen Curran (author of past hits Moose County and Cake -Walk). Tickets are still available to all perfor- mances but members of the public are ad- vised not to dawdle - many Blyth Festival performances have sold out weeks, or even months, in advance in the past, and there is no reason to suppose 1987 will be any different. The Box Office is currently open for ticket sales from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. converage on rises more scholarships are required and patrons are needed in meeting festival ex- penses. Scholarships range from $25 to over $200 patrons are $25 and up, and friends of the festival are any amounts under $25. All donations are gratefully acknowledged in the festival program and receipts are given for tax purposes." "Another way to assist the festival is by businesses placing ads in the program", said Gladys Jacklin, who is on the advertis- ing committee with Edith Waldie. "These programs reach the public within a sixty mile radius. We have always receiv- ed an excellent response from the com- munities involved in the festival, and we ap- preciate their interest and help", said Edith Waldie. Walkerton Treasurer Bill Read, who is also the chair- man of the Budget and Finance Committee said, "I have really enjoyed guiding the festival financially in the past six years and still find it a challenging job. We are self supporting, thanks to the generous dona- tions from buisness and professional people, municipalities, organizations, and in- terested individuals. When we did have a surplus we returned it to the community by donating $1000.00 to the new grand piano in the Town Hall which is used for the festival, and also donated towards drapes for the Town Hall stage." The festival concludes with the presenta- tion of scholarships at the Highlights Con- cert on Saturday evening, May 2, at the Walkerton District Secondary School. Auxiliary set for dinner and auction BLYTH - The Legion Auxiliary here is putting the finishing touches on their dinner and auction which is set for April 25. Pro- ceeds will go towards purchasing a lift for the community centre. Updating the donations puts the Londesboro Lions on the list with a $1,500 donation; minor sports and ringette with $500; the Blyth Figure Skating Club with $250; John Hesselwood, $100; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Gore, $50; Auburn Lions Club, $300; Lloyd Tasker, $50; chocolate bar sales, $1,000, bringing the total to $19,090. The amount of $30,000 has been set as the target. Tickets for the dinner and auction can be picked up from any Auxiliary member.
