Clinton and area obituaries
Jean Shortreed
Jean Isabel Shortreed, formerly of Morris
Township and Seaforth, died on February 12
in Huronview, Clinton. She was 78 years old.
Born in Grey Township, she was the
daughter of the late John Ritchie and the
former Dorothy McAllister.
She is survived by three daughters, Anne
McKarney of Australia, Jean Goodman of
Burlington and Carol of Toronto. Also Sur-
viving is one sister, Janet Lyddiatt of Clin-
ton, one brother, Ken Ritchie of Egmond-
ville and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Shortreed was predeceased by her
husband, Walter Shortreed, and two
brothers, Clifford and James.
Friends were received at the Whitney-
Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth and a
funeral service was held on February 18.
Spring burial will be in Brussels Cemetery.
Irene Henri -Scott
A former Clinton shopkeeper, Irene (Bon-
dy) Henri -Scott, died at the North Lambton
Rest Home in Forest on February 9. She was
90 years old.
Mrs. Henri -Scott is remembered in the
community for Henri's Beauty Shop of Clin-
ton that she owned and operated for over 20
years. The shop and apartment was located
above what is now the No Kidding store.
Mrs. Henri -Scott was twice married. Her
first husband, Laurence Henri died in 1948
while her second husband, Duncan Liv-
ingston Scott died in 1979.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley
and her husband Jack Scott of Forest. D T

Reformed Church facilities double
CLINTON - At the February 16 annual
meeting of the Clinton Christian Reformed
Church an important decision was made.
The congregation finally approved plans for
renovations and expansion of the education
and fellowship facilities.
When completed. these facilities will he
doubled in size compared with the present
facilities built in 1954. Included will be com-
plete new washrooms with facilities for han-
dicapped, new kitchen, and much needed
nursery facilities. There were 22 babies
born in 1986, and present nurseries are

Pastor Samplonius is continuing his ser-
mons on the Heidelberg Catechism.
Presently they are at the section dealing
with the 10 Commandments.

and Joan Scott of London. Also surviving
are 12 grandchildren and 18 great-
grandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters, Hazel
Gauthier of Wallaceburg and Ada Yager of
Windsor.
Mrs. Henri -Scott was predeceased by a
daughter, Merle Reynolds, a great-
grandson, five brothers and one sister.
A funeral service was held on February 11
at St. Christopher's Church in Forest.

Ladies help residents with game of Bingo
QUEENSWAY - Queensway Nursing
Home residents have been very busy with
several interesting activities this week.
The week began with a great game of
Bingo Monday, with the help of the Kippen
United Church ladies which made the after-
noon extra special.
Tuesday Morning it was time for exercis-
ing once again. Then in the afternoon there
was the weekly church service with Rev.
Bob Sinasac. Rev. Sinasac was accom-
panied on the piano by Phillipa Steckle.
In the evening residents had the pleasure
of once again welcoming the Christian
Reformed Singers who sang beautifu4
several favorite hymns. It was a relaxing
and enjoyable evening.
Wednesday afternoon brought one of the
favorite activities; Fun and Games. This
month however residents had the Zurich
Mennonite Church ladies come in to share
the fun. After the games, they enjoyed
listening to a few poems, then the singing of
a few songs.
Thursday morning residents viewed the
movie of the week which was called The
Mitt. It was about a little boy who realized
the love of his mother and the real joy of
giving.
Arts and crafts was what was on the agen-
da for Thursday afternoon. This session was
run by a group from Hensall Public School.
Together, the students and residents got into
the St. Patrick's Day spirit by developing a
bulletin board for the month of March. It
was rewarding as well as a fun afternoon.
Friday afternoon residents had the
pleasure of welcoming the second group
from the Hensall Public School who took
part in The Sharing of Stories. The students
had several interesting questions concern-
ing the days gone by. Everyone had a ter-
rific time, learning about yesterdays'
memories.
Clinton I 4 -Hers start new project
CLINTON - On February 11, the Clinton I
4-H club held their first meeting. They
discussed what they would be doing in the
Surviving with Style project. Parents were
invited to this meeting because there are a
lot of horpe activities in this project.
The first youth leader of Clinton 1 4-H club
is Sylvia Crich. She will be doing four, 15
minute learning sessions in the coming
weeks. Her first session was showing the
club members how to make hot Special an-
ple drink and teaching them how to use li-
quid and solid measures.
The election of officers was held and those
voted in are: president, Sheri Oesch; vice-
president;
icepresident; Colleen Gower; setretaty, Sherri
i,avis and press reporter, Kim Dixon.
Meeting Two
On February 19, Clinton 1, 4-H Club had its
second meeting. They talked about how to
spend a lot of money if they just won it. Then

CLINTON - Huronic Rebekah Lodge held
its regular meeting on February 16, and was
chaired by Noble Grand Sister Jean Wyatt
and assisted by Vice Grand Sister Joyce
Chilton, with good attendance.
After a short meeting, Mari Vere -
representative of the Huron -Perth - Bruce
Chapter for Epilepsy spoke briefly on the
common types of seizures and showed an in-
formative film on how to handle them if the
need were to arise. She also noted their need
for more public funds to which Rebekeh
Sisters had already responded.
A lunch and social time was enjoyed.

Another successful card party was en-
joyed on February 19, with 10 tables play-
ing. Thank -you to all who participated.
Ladies' high prize went to Gladys Riehl:
low to Ida Godkin and most lone hands were
played by Erma Crich. With the men's high
prize being won by Watt Webster, low going
to Eleanor Falconer and lone hand winner
being Doug Cartwright. Draw prizes were
won by: Eldie Crich, Grace White, Mary
Trick, Bill Caldwell, Bill Holland, Walter
Pepper, Ida Godkin, Irene Whitmore, Marg
Treivena, and Rachel Johnston.

they compared what they would buy, with
other people.
They also talked about decisions you
make every day.
After tole last weell'S'Woi`k was checked,
the girls were split up into two groups. In
those groups they had straws, pins, a paper
cup, and colored paper. With these items
they tryed to make something in coopera-
tion. One was called Sylvia in the morning,
the other was a space creature Norman.
The Sunday morning worship was held in
the chapel, and the guest speaker was
Cheryl -Anne Stadelbauer Sampa, Minister
of Egmondville United Church. The
residents enjoyed this time with Cheryl -
Anne and appreciated her inspiring
message. Next Sunday morning, there will
be special music with Don Cameron.
