Valentine 's

HOLMESVILLE - Worship service was
held in Holmesville United Church on Sun-
day morning with Rev. James Bechtel of -
heating. The senior choir led in the Ministry
of Music. Rev. Bechtel spoke to the children
about Valentine's before going to their
classes. Ray Bush and Larry Rutledge
received the offering.
The Junior UCW of Hohnesville United
Church held a family night of bowling,
which proved to be a great success, with
some of 'the bowlers being Feal experts and
other first timers. Following the bowling,
some 50 people returned to the church hall
for a pot -luck supper.
The Enterprising Seniors will meet.
February 19 at 2 p.rn. in the community cen;
tre in Holmesville.
Students visit
Hullett
Conservation
Area

VANASTRA - Last week at Vanastra
Public School was a very interesting and
busy week for students and teachers.
On Thursday the Grade 3 to Grade 7
students travelled to the Hullett Conserva-
tion Area, where Rob Gibson showed them
around. The students enjoyed a day of ski-
ing, tobogganing and showshoeing. They
finished off the day by cooking hot dogs over
an open fire.
On Friday, the school celebrated Vaien-
tine's Day. In the morning the residents of
Huronview who belong to the HUG (Help Us
Grow) program joined their buddies in a
Valentine's party at the school. The students
also held a box social. There was lots to eat
and lots of fun bidding for the lunches.
This week the final speeches will be given
in the gym on Tuesday. The final one or two,
with the best speeches will then travel to the
Clinton Legion on Wednesday February 25.
On Wednesday morning, Constable Mar-
shall of the Goderich OPP will give a talk on
shoplifting. This is part of the ViP (Values,
Influences and Peers) program being given
by Constable Marshall to the Grade 7
students.
Parents are reminded that there is a PA
Day next Friday, February 27.
Bingo Results
The winners of bingo games from
February 10 were: Share the Wealth,
Elizabeth Van Dam, Clinton; Viola Peter-
son Clinton; and Lorene Robinson of
Goderich. The jackpot was taken home by
Marion Castle of Clinton.
Recreation Centre News
The Vanastra Recreation Centre is now
taking registration names for the Red Cross
Leaders (Course which will be held March
16-21. You must pre -register. The fee for this
course includes material and exam fee.
(Candidates must be 15 years of age.
This course is a must for anyone who
wants to go on and take the Red Cross Water
Safety Swim Instructor's Course.
Don't forget Friday night is also Friday
Fun Night at the pool. From 7 to 8 p.m.
swimmers can enjoy the use of inner tubes,
rings, balls, float boards, etc, or they can hr-
ing their own favourite water toy.

The club has changed the date of activity
night to Friday, February 27. The club will
hold its monthly business meeting Thursday
at the recreation centre.
Teen Club
The teen club held a meeting at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre last Monday.
The members of the club finished prepara-
tions for their Teen Dance to be held
February 20 from 8 p.m. - 12 a.m. The disc
jockey will he C.M.T. Profits from this event
will be donated.

Rebekah Sisters played host to 13 tables of
euchre, with the winners as follows: ladies'
high was raptured by Marjorie Caldwell,
low prize went to Mary Switzer and the most
lone hands prize to Erma Crich.
High prize for the men went to George
Wright. lone prize to Ernie Brown and most
lona hands prize to Clayton Ellis.
Draw prizes were won by Retta Baird, Ed-
na Wheeler, Muriel Grigg, Doug Cart-
wright, Bill Jenkins, Ruth Fisher, Ida
Godkin, Eldie Crich, Clayton Ellis and .Jack
Henderson.
Next card party is on February 19, at 8
p.m. at the IOOF Hall, Princess Ave.
The Bayfield Lioness' pot -luck lunch, held at St. Andrew's United Church on February
12, was a great success, as can be seen by this line-up for food. Kathleen Siertsema was
the winner of an afghan donated by Grace Pepper. When cards were played Norma
Gosse and Jack Wilkinson had the high, while the low was won by Jean Lindsay and Gor-
don Kurtz. All proceeds from the lunch went to Clinton Public Hospital's "From Here To

Summerhill euchre results
SUMMERHILL - A euchre party was held
here on February 13 with nine tables in play.
Alice Buchanan had the high for the ladies
and the men's high was won by John Lyons.
The ladies' lone hands were held by Verna
Glazier and Ida Godkin had them for the
men. Helen Lyons had the ladies' low and
Bill Gibbings had it for the men.
The lucky draw winners were Don Wat-
son, Earl Heipel and Helen Soptheran.
