Drama festival to feaiirehigh school to°lent,
CLINTON - Organizers of the Central
Huron School Drama Festival wish to share
the following information with you. On Fri-
day and Saturday February 13th and 14th,
students from high schools in Huron, Perth,
and Elgin counties will asemble at Central
Huron Secondary School to participate in a
number of 'theatre related workshops and
group discussions with professionals m their
fields.
The Festival is designed to provide not on-
ly a showcase for area talent, but also, it
fosters an exchange of ideas and promotes
cooperative friendship between students
coming from several different schools. In
addition, the public gets treated to some fine
entertainment. All plays performed at the -
Festival are written by professional Cana-
dian playwrights or have been an original
cooperative effort on the part of a teacher -
and the cast.
All public performances on the Friday
and Saturday evening begin promptly at
7:30 p.m. in the Blyth Memorial Hall in
Blyth, Ontario.
On the opening night, Friday, February
13, Central Elgin Secondary School from St.
Thomas will perform an original script en-
titlgil Roman Fool. This play explores the
conrrast in attitudes towards death of two
aging men who meet in a park across the
street from a nursing home.
Central Huron Secondary School in Clin-
ton will perform the first act of Norm
Foster's The Melville Boys. This work is a
funny, tender, and unsentimental look at
what happend when four very different lives
in transition touch down on common ground.
To conclude the evening, F.E. Madill
Secondary School in Wingham will perform
Still Stands The House by Gwen Pharis
Ringwood. This play deals with the family
tensions that develop when a farmer must
decide between selling his farm or sticking
it out for one more year as his deceased
father might have wished.
On Saturday evening, February 14, the
fine entertainment continues when Listowel
District Secondary School leads off with
selections taken from the hit comedy The
Farm Show. Recently performed in the
Goderich Township shed in Holmesville,
this play, which is a collective creation by
members of Theatre Passe-Muraille, is
guaranteed to appeal to all audiences both
rural and urban.
