His show covers the evolution of the most popular house style in Ontario. The first settlers brought to the Huron Tract by John Galt found the most extreme climatic conditions, searing heat in summer and freezing snow in winter. Their first con- sideration was protection from the elements. Mr. Langan will show by way of an introduction to house architecture in Western Ontario the progress from log shan- ty through the different house styles of the nineteenth century to Victorian Gothnic Revival. Emphasis is put on the simplest form of Gothic Revival; the storey and a half house with a gable over the front door and a kit- chen tail to the rear. The program em- phasizes how the houses were built and what remodeling has done to original aesthetic appeal. Architectural terminology is kept to a minimum so that everyone can enjoy the show. Howey Langan retired from the Regular Force ( Army) in 1976 and bought a house at Vanastra. Since then he has been self- employed as a free lance photographer. His main commercial subjects have been the mobile home and recreational vehicle in- dustry; both manufacturing and park development. He became interested in wildflowers and now has more than 50 photographs in the National Museum of Canada collection and BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL DiRECTO.:y., hone:4032741, -, GLASS / ALUMINUM See us for your build! g projects • Glass and Mirrors •Energy Efficient Re lacement Windows • Seamless Eavestroughing •Complete Range of Aluminum or Vinyl Siding and Building Products • Window and Screen Repairs •Door Service and Repairs COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL Cl }inton QDLaQ00 24 Prioress St. West, CLINTON 482-3322 MHZ Installation SALE and SERVICE rind Parts KEITH SIEMON FARM SYSTEMS LTD, R.R. 4 Walton Phone 345-2734 or 482-7971 FOR FREE PLANNING AND ESTIMATES HE TING / All CONDITIONING 'BAILEY' MILL STREET, HENSALL 262-2020 Specialists in Pulse Combustion Heating Lenno7t Pulse Furnaces Hydro Pulse Boilers Lennox Control Air Conditioning WE'RE PROUD TO BE YOUR... Museum grant okayed t° 1 • from page 1 the province's annual Heritage Week which begins Feb. 16, Riddell commended the work of local politicians and officials in formulating plans for the restoration work. "I commend the hard work and dedica- tion of area officials," he offered. "Your efforts are most worthwhile." Health Minister Elston told the group their efforts in preserving the museum went beyond the mere preservation of ar- tifacts for display. "It is important to preserve this type of facility," he said. "This type of work is preserving the soul of a community which is so important. We can't ever lose that. "I came here as a school kid and remember J.H. Neill welcoming us. The soul of Huron County was on display here and we all have a particular remem- brance. The storage of items here is im- portant to the people of Huron County and it is important to the development of. a community." Town of Goderich Reeve, Harry Worsell, now chairman of county council's museum committee, welcomed the ministers and offered his thanks to the provincial govern- ment for its support of the project. -This is a great thing for the county of Huron and for the town of Goderich," he said. "And we're glad it's finally happening." , The Huron County Pioneer Museum began in 1948 with the county's acqusition of the unique Neill collection. The facility opened with the purchase of the Central School Building in 1951. Several additions have been made to the building, which was erected in 1856. A portion of the museum was condemn- ed and later closed by county council. The renovations will mean that the Huron County Pioneer Museum will be open to the public on a year-round basis and an elevator will be installed for use by visitors and the handicapped. CFIP grants are awarded to non-profit community organizations to help repair and restore historical buildings, sites and bridges.
