Bayfielders go fowl at bingo
By Helen Owen
BAYFIELD - The Community Centre was
well filled on December 8, when the Bayfield
Lions held their annual Turkey Bingo. At the
end of the evening there were 15 lucky peo-
ple with a Christmas dinner assured, as well
as another half a dozen who `shared the
wealth'.
The door prize went to Cathy Sauve,
turkeys were won by K. Renner, D. McAsh,
Wilma Rosner, Clarence Rau, Peter Jef-
frey, Olive Broadfoot, Marg Talbot, Chris.
Vesey, Helen Latimer, Elsie Coombes (who
also participated in sharing the wealth),
Alice Brandon, Lena Koene, Madelan Mcll-
wain, Grace Masse and Dora Warwick.
There were four "Share the Wealth" ses-
sions, the lucky winners being Flo
Youmatof£, Evelyn Francis, Elsie Coombes,
Joyce Marshall, Ede Turner and Philip Du
Boulay. Once again this proved a very suc-
cessful project.
The Lions also announced this week that
the CNIB canvass had brought in over
$1,100. Anyone who missed and would like to
contribute should contact Lion, Reg Wilson -
565-2418.
A representative had attended the "Back
the Biter" project, a euchre tournament and
contributed $100 from the club.
The Lions would like to remind Bayfield
residents of two other on-going ventures.
The first is the collection of old newspapers -
bundle them up and put them out on the
roadside at 9 a.m. on the first Saturday of
every month. Used eye glasses and hearing
aids are also badly needed in other parts of
the world and these can be left at Brandon's
Hardware.
Lion Harry Baker's book is proving a
great success and he has generously
donated part of the money from the pro-
ceeds to the club.
Among the corning events, Santa will be
delivering gifts to the elderly, sick and shut-
ins on December 24.
The Lioness have been busy, too. At the
meeting on December 1 members and
former members enjoyed a lovely turkey
dinner at the Community Centre. There was
a real Christmas atmosphere with beautiful
decorations including a tree and welcoming
punch bowl.
Following an exchange of gifts, guests
were entertained with.a Bayfield. version of ..
Scrooge written for the Lioness by Helen
Owen. Taking part in the performance were
Vera Gregg, Kathleen Siertsema, Edith
Jamieson, Sharon Sinnamon with Janet
McDougall and Sue Scrimgeour helping out.
Lioness are also busy selling tickets for a
giant Christmas stocking (on display at the
bank of Commerce,) a toboggan and a teddy
bear. It was also announced that a donation
of $100 has been made to the Huron County
Homemakers.
A date for the children to keep in mind is
the annual Christmas party, 2 pm at the
Community Centre on December 20 whet)
there will be movies, goodies, and of course,
a visit from Santa.
Once again the Lioness are sponsoring a
competition and offering prizes for the best
decorated residence and business. There
will be two prizes for the former, $25 and
$15, while a special plaque will be awarded
to the best decorated business establishent.
Judging will take place on the evening of
Monday, December 22.
Story Time Party
This year the Story Time Party at the
Library will take place on Tuesday,
December 23, starting at 10 am. Music will

Pre -School in the Municipal Building will be
holding their Christmas party on Thursday,

children. The little ones then took over sing-
ing three songs, and the program concluded
with reading of poems by the older class.
The arrival of Santa and distribution of
gifts was the final touch for the young par-
ticipants, after which lunch was served to
round, off the evening. Teachers Wendy
Hessell, Matt Smith, Shirley Schilbe• and
Helen Latimer are to be congratulated on
the excellence of the concert
and thanked for all the work involved in put-
ting it together.
Clan Gregor Residents Celebrate
Residents at Bayfield's Clan Gregor
apartment enjoyed a communal evening
on December 9. To begin with they enjoyed
an excellent dinner at the Bayfield Village
Inn and on their return home gathered in the
common room for musical entertainment
provided by Albert Craig. The lively music
and participation in singing old favorites
made a pleasant change, and the evening
concluded with the distribution of gifts from
the Christmas tree.
Then on Wednesday afternoon members
of the Bayfield Lioness arrived and again
residents congregated in the lounge. The
organ was played by Ruth George and
Kathleen Siertsema and everyone joined in
the carol singing. This seasonal entertain-
ment concluded with delicious refreshments
also provided by the Lioness - thank you,
ladies.
Church News

on December 14 at St. Andrew's United

in every sense of the world. The church was
packed to capacity, the atmosphere enhanc-
ed by the gleaming star, tree and Christmas
greenery.
The full choir, augmented by volunteers
presented a program of traditional carols as
well as introducing new ones and new ar-
rangements of old favorites. Molly Cox
played the organ and was also responsible
for the excellence of the choral perfor-
mance. Guest pianist was Ed Stiles. The
soloists were Allison and Ted Dunn, Jean
Milne, Doreen McKenzie and Don Keillor.
