HOLMESVILLE - What started out as a
hobby two years ago has now flourished into
a fulltime business for Milena Lobb.
Special Effects provides handmade
decorations for weddings, anniversaries,
showers and parties as well as invitations,
cake wrap, candles and silk flowers. Also
available are many crafts created both by
Mrs. Lobb and local craftspeople.
Mrs. Lobb had no idea how successful her
business would become and started working
in her home, but as her hobby grew into a
business, she was forced to find more room
and has recently moved to the old Goderich
Township Municipal office located by the
Godorich Township Community Centre.
"I worked at home for two years until it
over flowed," she laughed. "I'm beginning
to wonder where I had everything when I
was there."
The self-taught craftsperson started her
hobby because she simply wanted
something to do.
"After going out west to a wedding where
they rented hearts and other things I decid-
ed to try it, and I always wanted to work
with silk flowers," she said.
Prior to her trip west, Mrs. Lobb had plan-
ned on starting a T-shirt business but feels
her present occupation is much better.
Mrs. Lobb has needed the extra space she
has acquired with her move as this year has
been extremely busy.
"This summer there has been a wedding
almost every week, if not two," she said.
Mrs. Lobb finds each wedding a
challenge, therefore she never finds her
work monotonous.
"It's lots of fun. Every wedding is dif-
ferent so I don't get bored - I can't get
bored," she said. "It's a challenge to get the
arrangement co-ordinated with the room
and it's fun meeting the people."
Also displayed in the Holmesville store
are crafts such as wallhangings, bread
dough art, ceramics and quilted hoops.
Mrs. Lobb is also organizing the First An-
nual Country Craft Festival to be held at the
Goderich Township Community Centre
from October 3-5, so she is quite pleased
with her new location and the space it pro-
vides for her fulltime hobby.
