An award was given to pupils who had attended 30 Sundays or more. Grants for disabled available TORONTO - The Secretariat for Disabled faPersons is now inviting applications for grants out of the Community Action Fund. Brochures giving details of the Fund and ap- plication procedures are currently being distributed to agencies representing the in- terests of disabled persons. Established in support of Ontario's Pro- clamation of the Decade of Disabled Per- sons, the Community Action Fund will assist projects designed to increase opportunities for people with disabilities. Priority will be given to initiatives undertaken by communi- ty groups. "The establishment of the Fund reflects the government's renewed commitment to broaden the participation of disabled per- sons in community life," said Minister Responsible for Disabled Persons, Tony Ruprecht. "I encourage all eligible organizations to take advantage of this opportunity." To qualify for funding, organizations must comply with the Ontario Human Rights Code, be non-profit incorporated and operating with an accountable governing structure. Applications should be submitted to the Secretariat for Disabled Persons at least two months prior to commencement of the project. Parr leads Sunday service By Blanche Deeves HOLMESVILLE - On Sunday morning wor- ship service was held in Holmesville United Church. In the absence of Rev. Becktel, Rob Parr led the congregation. Dan Lobb and Kevin Parks received the offering. The next meeting of the Enterprising Seniors is to be held September 18 at 8 p.m. in the community centre in Holmesville. Ladies are not to bring lunch to this meeting as it is the anniversary meeting where there will be cake and ice cream to celebrate everyone's anniversary. The birthday box was passed and collec- tion was received. A motion made to give Mrs. Deeves more money for social services. Audrey handed out newsletters on the deli booth. Everyone is asked to fill them in and return them by the September 17 meeting at 8 p.m.. Lunch was served by Mrs. Jervis and Bev Schilbe while everyone watched a video of the Apple Blossom Festival. "An- nie," with a four week run, played to packed houses as the season closer. The 15 year old has played "Annie" before in her home town at the Sudbury Theatre Centre, and was the top Canadian contender for the American movie "Annie". This talented young lady has been taking lessons since the age of three. Theresa, con- sidered a little too shy by nature when very young, was enrolled by her mother at the Gauverau's School of Dancing in Sudbury, where she has been studying jazz, tap and ballet since. A senior member with Canadian Showcase, the school's touring company, she has performed and/or competed in Mon- treal, Toronto, New York City, Miami and the—Batianias.ri d—Wiiti an especially strong voice for her age, Betty Leake, her voice teacher, decided to start her training unusually early. She was eight. Theresa lovesmusical theatre, the perfect vehicle for the integration of all three disciplines — acting, singing and dancing. Some of her other credits include roles in "Alice in Wonderland", "The Sound of Music" and "The Wizard of Oz". Her next aspiration is to play the plum role in "Anne of Green Gables".
