Clinton Squirts are consolation champs
The Clinton Oesch Woodworking Squirt
Boys Softball team won the consolation
championship of the 1986 Annual Squirt
Walton Tournament.
Clinton lost their opening game to Mit-
chell 16-2 in a rain shortened game on
August 23.
Their next game was against Londesboro.
It went 11 innings before Clinton won.
Clinton took a 4-1 lead in the first inning
when. Mike Nahrgang hit a bases loaded
double driving in all three runners.
Londesboro scored three runs in the fifth
to tie the game and sent it into extra innings.

CLINTON - The Clinton Farm Market
Mites beat Walton 20-6 to win the softball
championship series in two games straight.
Kevin McKay pitched the win, striking out
15 batters and allowing only three infield
hits.
In the top of the first inning with two out
singled home Natham Burno to tie the game
again.
In the eleventh, after Londesboro scored
three runs Clinton scored four times with
Jimi Wright driving in the tying run and
Scott Wright the winning run with a single.
Top batter for Clinton was Mike Nahrgang
with three doubles and five RBI's.
The winning pitcher was Natham Burns
who struck out 12 batters ,
The losing pitcher was Randy Sheppard
who came on in relief of Chris Kennedy in
the first inning.
Top batters for Londesboro were Chris
Kennedy and Danny Van Bakke' with three
hits each.
In the championship game Clinton met
Belgrave and squeaked and a f0-9 victory.

Clinton fell behind 3-1 but came back with
two runs in the second four in the third and
three in the fourth to take a 10-6 lead.

Top batters for Clinton this game were
Nathan Burns with a homerun and a triple,
Jimi Wright with two singles and David
Nahrgang with the winning R.B.I.
The winning pitcher was again Nathan
Burns who gave up only 8 hits and struck out
11 batters.
Clintons defensive plays slowed the op-
position throughout the day.
Congratulations to Marg Taylor, her staff
and the umpires on successful, well run
tournament.
Mites win softball finals
Mike Hohner hit a three run homer to give
Clinton a quick four run lead.
In the third inning the Mites batted
through the order, scoring eight times.
Their hitting was highlighted by consecutive
RBI singles from Jason Heipel, Chris Riehl,
John Bernier and Danny Groves.
In the sixth inning Clinton started stealing

Local lawn bowlers tops in tournaments
During a lawn, bowling tournament in
Hanover on August 30, Cliff Ashton, a
bowler from the Clinton Lawn Bowling Club
was among the winners.
Cliff Ashton, Elmer Murray, Walter
Newcombe, Al Lapp, Ken McDougal, and
Hary McCallum were some of the winners
at a tournament in Lucknow on September
1.
The jitney winners At the Clinton club on
September 2 were Corra Sherwood with the
high for the'ladies, and Don Haines with the
men's high.
On September 3 the Merchant and
Manufacturing men's pairs tournament was
held in Lucknow. Clinton winners at the
tournament were Walter Newcombe, Cliff
Ashton, Elmer Murray, Ken McDougal, Al
Lapp and Harvey McCallum.
At the Sausage Tournament held in New
Hamburg the local winners were Elmer
Murray, Walter Newcombe, Cliff Ashton
and Harvey McCallum.
' A mixed pairs tournament, held in
Wingham on September 6, saw Walter
Newcombe and Della Slavin come oat
winners.
Della Slavin, Walter Newcombe and Don
Haines won a mixed trebles tournament
held on September 7.
Canadian pros to host racing safety clinic

VARNA - Kevin Moore of Sarnia, one of
the top 10 motocross and supercross.riders
in Canada, and Chuck Collins of Varna, top
ATV rider in Ontario, will be hosting a
riding school for ATV's and motocross on
September 13 at Hully Gully in Varna.
