Angela Gower
Angela Gower, daughter of Don and Joan
Gower of Clinton, graduated on June 21
from St. Clair College, Windsor, in the Phar-
macy Assistant program. Angela has ac-
cepted a position at University Hospital,
London.

in officer
training
Cadet Corporal Robert Ostrom, son of Mr.
and Mrs. David Ostrom of Lynchburg,
Virginia, and grandson of Mrs. John Ostrom
of Varna and Elnor Beuerman of Dublin has
been invited to participate in the cadet of-
ficer and non-commissioned officer training
program at Fishburne Military School in
Waynesboro, Virginia.
The officer training program is offered to
Grade 11 and 12 students who have been
selected for their demonstrated leadership
ability and military as well as academic
performance. It begins five days prior to the
opening of school and includes intensive
training in leadership development, drill
and ceremony, orientation procedures, and
school standards. Cadets will be evaluated
and positions within the corps will be assign-
ed at the completion of this period.
Cadet Corporal Ostrom, a three year
Cadet at Fishburne, is a rising senior.
Clayton H. Edward
A Goderich businessman and politician,
Clayton H. Edward, 74, of 22 Victoria St. S.,
Goderich, died in Victoria Hospital, London
on Sunday, Aug. 17, 1986.
Born in Goderich Township of a pioneer
family, he was the son of the late Charles T.
Edward and Alice (Hick) Edward. He was a
graduate of Goderlch Collegiate Institute
and Stratford Normal School.
After operating a taxi businees for several
years, he purchased a local business which
he operated successfully as Edward Fuels
until his retirement 10 years ago.
Always active in the life of his church
Knox Presbyterian, he served for many
years both on the board of managers and as
an elder on Kirk Session.
Keenly interested in municipal affairs, he
was a former member of Goderich town
council and Huron County council as deputy -
reeve for Goderich. He was a long time
member of both the library board and the
Maitland Cemetery board.
He was a staunch member of the Goderich
Lions Club from 1944 to 1986. In 1985, he was
the recipient of an Honorary Life Member-
ship from Lions International.
He is survived by his wife Madeleine
(Lane), his two sons David and his wife
Gayle of Cambridge and Donald and his
wife Linda, of Goderich Township, grand-
children Laurie, David, Daniel, Catherine
and Graham, a sister Verna Blackstone and
an aunt Irene Oke, both Goderich residents.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
Aug. 20 at Knox Presbyterian Church with
Rev. G. Lockhart Royal officiating. Inter-
ment Maitland Cemetery.
The Lions Club Memorial service was
held Tuesday, Aug. 19 at the McCallum-
Palla Funeral Home.
Pallbearers included Martel Buchanan,
Bruce Erskine, H.O. Jerry, Donald Scruton,
John Stringer and William Vanstone.
Katherine Ella Livingston
Katherine Ella Livingston, infant
daughter of Larry and Beth (Hulley) Liv-
ingston of Vanastra, died on her date of
birth, Friday august 29.
She is survived by her parents, and grand-
parents, Pat and Bill Hulley of Cromarty
and David Livingston of Clinton and Gail
Livingston of Goderich. Also surviving are
great grandmothers, Ida Livingston of Clin-
ton and Elizabeth Ramsey of Mitchell.
A private family service was held on
September 1. Interment in Clinton
Cemetery. The Whitney-Ribey Funeral
Home of Seaforth was in charge of
arrangements.
Arthur George Alexander
Arthur George Alexander, of Brucefield,
died in Clinton Public Hospital on
September 2 at the age of 73.
Mr. Alexander was born on August 16,
1913 in McKillop Township to the late Hugh
and Hannah (McCutcheon) Alexander. On
September 23., 1939 he married Gladys
Mason at the Mason farm in Hullett
Township.
The Alexanders farmed in McKillop
Township until 1967 when they moved to
Brucefield where they have lived ever since.
Mr. Alexander was a member of the
Brucefield United Church and a former
member of Winthrop United Church. He was
also the secretary -treasurer of the Winthrop
United Church Sunday School.
• Surviving is his wife, one daughter, Mrs.
Margaret Volland of Port Carling, and two
sons, John of Holmesville and Gary of Clin-
ton. He is also survived by eight grand-
children and one great grandson.
Mr. Alexander is also survived by one
sister, Mrs. James (Jean) MacDougall of
New Liskard.
He was predeceased by one infant
daughter, Kathryn; and two sisters, Mrs.
John (Margaret) Easun and Mrs. Hiram
(Helen) Shannon; and one brother, William.
A funeral service was held on September 4
at Bali and Falconer Box Funeral Chapel,
Seaforth, with Rev. Lorne Keays of
Brucefield United Church officiating.
Flower bearers were grandsons Douglas
Alexander, Terry Alexander and Robert
Volland.
Pallbearers were Stewart Dolmage, Ken-
neth Glanville, Earl McSpadden, William
Pepper, Kenneth Scott and Mac Wilson.
Interment in Maitlandbank Cemetery in
Seaforth.

Grace Gardiner
Grace E. Gardiner of 54 Albert Street,
Clinton and formerly of Belleville, died at
her son's residence on September 3. He was
94 years old.
Mrs. Gardiner was born on February 1,
1892 to the late John and Mary (Rallison)
Dafoe. She was married to Stillman
Gardiner.
Mrs. Gardiner is survived by two
daughters and three sons; Mrs. Walter
(Ella) Perry of Gananoque, Mrs. Herbert
(Ruth) Day of Picton, Russell of Picton,
Walter of Clinton and Earl of Pembroke.
She was predeceased by three sons,
Harold, Kenneth and John and 15 grand-
children. She was also predeceased by three
sisters and four brothers.
A funeral service was held on September 8
at John R. Bush Funeral Home in Belleville
with Cannon Wright of Christ Anglican
Church officiating. Interment was in
Belleville Cemetery.
Beattie Funeral Home, Clinton, was in
charge of the arrangements.
Sarah Jean Jacob
Sarah Jean Jacob, of 161 Rattenbury
Street, Clinton, died in Clinton Public
Hospital on September 5. She was 74 years
old..
Mrs. Jacob was born on August zi, 1912 in
Clinton to Frederick and Sarah Jane
(Carter) Mutch. On November 20, 1940 she
married Ervin John (Dick) Jacob at the
Mutch residence on Princess Street.
Mrs. Jacob and her late husband were
known for many years of managing Huron -
view. Mrs. Jacob retired as the nursing
supervisor at Huronview in August of 1977.
She was also a member of St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church, Clinton and the
Madeleine Lane Auxiliary.
Mrs. Jacob is survived by one son, John
Jacob and his wife Martha of Cookstown and
grandsons David and Kevin; and one
brother Frank Mutch of Clinton.
She was predeceased by three brothers,
William, Jack and Charles Mutch.
A funeral and commital service was held
on September 8 at Ball and Falconer
Funeral Home with Rev. William Barber of
St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
officiating.
Interment in Clinton Cemetery.

Shirley Jean Procunier, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Neal Procunier of RR1 Eden, and
Steven Carmen Gross, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Carmen Gross of Auburn, were married on
June 21 at Richmond United Church with
Pastor N. Hare officiating. Pastor M.
Brubacher of the St. Thomas Baptist Church
assisted. The matron of honor was the
bride's sister, Ruth Copland, and the
bridesmaids were Gwen VanBruwaene, a
sister, and Elain Buis. Faith Wilkes, niece of
the bride, was the flowergirl and David Van-
Bruwaene, nephew of the bride, was the
ringbearer. The best man was the groom's
brother, David Gross, and the ushers were
David Whyte and John VanBruwaene. After
a honeymoon in Banff and Vancouver, the
couple took up residence in Blyth.
