The village is gearing beach. Bayfield has fall atmosphere BAYFIELD - This past week has seen a change of personality for Bayfield as the holiday visitors retreat and the village is once again quiet and uncrowded. Gone are all the closely parked cars on Main Street, much of the traffic on Highway 21 and the peripatetic strollers browsing through the stores. Theweather was -perfect for a walk -about with time and space to greet familiar faces and exchange news. For some Bayfield children the week has also meant school at- tendanc& for the first time, a new ex- perience, for some eargerly embraced while for others the introduction to a less popular regime. Already a few trees are signalling the im- minence of fall, discarding their first leaves and hinting at color changes. For cottagers it is a time to prepare to close up the house, storing away the memories of another summer, in some cases one more in a sequence covering two or three generations. Carefully tended gardens are tidied and the echo of voices is diminished as unoccupied swings and pools remain as tokens of the children's summer days. Other residents already have plans in hand for trips to exotic places flooded with sunshine which beckon enticingly as the seasons change. Yet others enjoy the perusal of colorful travel brochures, the decision making and anticipation of trips en- compassing familiar or unknown destinations. But Bayfield does not go to sleep between summer and spring. For many local groups, their busy summer schedules completed, it is a time to look to the future. Feelers have to be extended towards the formation of new committees, new programs and their im- plementation. There is no measure of the volunteer participation, and yet it is the life blood of the various organizations, a con- tribution made year after year and always requiring new infusions. May it long continue with new residents willing to perpetuate the community in- itiatives and so maintain the essential essence of -the Village of Bayfield. li,,i1,/ •iii. u> •1„ wri: . turf •rl c Crust Rllers take hampionship BAYFIELD - On September 2, the Pizza for on September 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bayfield.
