Clinton News-Record, 1986-09-10, Page 7Page 6—CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1986 IZIyth Standard New owners welcomed By David Emslie LONDESBORO - For a number of years now Paul and Marg Brunkard, previously of Fergus, have been searching Ontario to find a business they could own. Their search end- ed here when they became the new owners of the Hillcrest Restaurant and Gas Bar. Although both Mr. and Mrs. Brunkard were employed in Guelph before moving here, Mr. Brunkard as a salesman and Mrs. Brunkard as a bookkeeper -accountant, they ' have wanted to own their own business for awhile. This business was not necessarily the restaurant business. "We were just looking gat a little bit of everything," Mr. Brunkard said. His wife added, "We have been looking for quite a long time, off and on. We have been looking from one side of the province to the other." Onoe they came to look at the restaurant in mid-June, they knew they had found what they wanted. Both stated that when they came to Londesboro, they liked the village. Forty-five days after first seeing the restaurant and gas bar, the Brunkards with their sons Greg and Geoff took over on August 28 from the previous owners, Jean and Jerry Reid. Asked whether they had any •previous restaurant experience, Mrs. Brunkard replied, "No, none at all. I had organized a lot of meals for churches and things like that, but not doing all the cooking myself." All of the family are pitching in to help out with the business, with Mrs. Brunkard handling the cooking chores, Mr. Brunkard helping to wait on tables, and Greg, 17, and Geoff, 15, taking care of running the gas bar on Sundays. On top of this, Mrs. Brunkard added, "Greg is the repairman and Geoff loves waiting on the tables." They have no plans as yet to change anything in the restaurant, because, Mrs. Brunkard said, "We are just getting our feet wet first." However, they are making an effort to build up their gas business. To this end the gas bar will only be open on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. From Monday to Saturday the Paul and Marg Brunkard are happy to have found a business in Londesboro. They are the new owners of the Hillcrest Restaurant and Gas Bar. (David Emslie photo) restaurant and gas bar are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. So far the response in the village to the new owners has been great. "The village people have been so friendly, so nice. They are like old frienrlc " Mrs Rrnnkard said. Her husband added, "They make you feel like you belong." "We really like it here. The boys like the high school (Central Huron Secondary School) better than their old one. It's a bit smaller, and they say the teachers 'are nice," Mrs. Brunkard added to her praise of the area. On the subject of the family all working together Mrs. Brunkard concluded, "It's nice working together. We get to see each other now." • Auburn Mites take first place Gary Shuttleworth conducted the service at Knox United Church and Mrs. Greg Park was pianist.
