Dear Editor,
Blyth turned back the pages of time one
Saturday in 1962. I recall coming to the first
steam show here with my Uncle Harold
Sloan. There were four steam engines two
I remember were Stewart Muir's 25 hp
Sawyer Massey: this was its first show since
Stewart did an excellent restoration on it in
his Paisley machine shop. A second engine
was George Searson's. Lobsinger Bros.
from Mildmay were there with one of their
Lion threshers, the only one with a complete
glass side. This was an interesting display
as show visitors could see the grain pass
through the various components in the
separator. The separator was a 24 x 36 size
and is now on display in the Ontario
Agricultural Museum in Milton. Another at-
traction was a John Deere model 80 diesel
tractor equipped wEth dual wheels.
There was a portab e sawmill on the
grounds' in operation. Thit show had several
attractions: Baker fan to test belt
horsepower, gas tractors, and old cars.
Since the first show it has grown greatly and
we all admire the founders of the associa-
tion for their insight in organizing what is to-
day The Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby
da
Association. Jim Sloan
