Clinton News-Record, 1986-09-06, Page 25OVER 12,000 NOW ATTEND Paw 3 On the grow A meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Hallahan on May 28, 1962 was the beginning of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association which now sponsors an annual reunion show attracting an attendance of 12,000. Attending the meeting for the purpose of organizing those interested in steam engines were Hugh Chisholm of Sarnia; Stuart Muir of Paisley, John Scott of Formosa; and the Hallahan Brothers of Blyth. Once the decision to proceed with the organization was made, the next step was to choose a name and to elect an executive. A subsequent meeting, held- on June 20, 1962 at the Memorial Hall in Blyth, was chaired by Harold Turner of Godericb and Simon Hallahan of Blyth acted as secretary. The group, on a motion by Robert Beatty and seconded by W.J. Hallahan, was unanimous in its decision that an organization be formed and be called the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association. Harold Turner was elected president on a motion by Simon Hallahan and William Gow. Mr. Hallahan was named secretary, a position he held for 20 years. The first official reunion was held in Blyth on September 7 and 8, 1962, attracting approximately 500 people. Each year has seen increasing in- terests and exhibits with attendance now estimated at over 12,000. Presidents of tiie association since its inception have been: Harold Turner, Don Snell, Fred Mote, John Ellacott, Robert Cook, Wayne Houston, Raymond Hallahan and Bill Vincent. - Simon Hallahan acted as secretary from 1962 until 1981 when Marian Hallahan assumed the position. Throughout the years, there have been four treasurers. They were: 1962 - 68, Alec Manning; 1968- 72, George Watt; 1973 - 82, Simon Hallahan; 1982 - present, Carman Craig.
