Goderich Township residents dedicate Gerry Ginn Memorial Park
Unveiling' the new sign for the Gerry Ginn Memorial Park on
August 23 were Anne Abbott (left) and Alison Lobb. The committee
that thought of the idea for renaming the park,"collected the funds,
organized the erection of the sigii and the dedication ceremony in-
cluded Anne Abbott, Dave Hemingway, Alison Lobb, Gary
Preszcator, Grant Stirling and Donna Wettlaufer. The baseball
sign design was done by Walter Bell and Dave Hemingway. The
ceremonial cake was courtesy of Elana Morgan; flowers courtesy

HOLMESVILLE - A special ceremony
was held here on Saturday evening, August
23 to mark the dedication of the Gerry Ginn
Memorial Park.
Goderich Township Reeve Grant Stirling
was the master of ceremonies for the
ceremony, held in memory of the late Mr.
Ginn. Mr. Ginn was well known in the com-
munity both for his political involvement
and personal work and friendships. In his
honor the ball park along Highway 4 has
been dedicated in his memoty.
Ann Abbott and Alison Lobb unveiled the
plaque that named the park in remem-
brance of Mr. Ginn. Rev. Stanley Mac-
Donald also took part in the special
ceremony. Mr. Ginn's daughter Jan spoke
on behalf of the family.
' Following the ceremony, refreshments
were served.
Seniors meet
The Goderich Township Enterprising
Seniors met at the Community Centre on
August 21. Following the meeting, . the
members took part in games of shuffleboard
and euchre.
The group will meet again on September 4
at 8 p.m. in the Community Centre at
Holmesville.
Insurance rate jumps 30%
for Stanley Township
STANLEY TWP. - Insurance premiums
for the municipality have jumped 30 per
cent, from $13,183 in 1985 to $17,344 in 1986,
while coverage has g ane up about four per
cent for such items 9placement cost of
machinery, members of Stanley council
learned at their first regular August session.
In other news, the provincial ministry of
citizenship and culture has provided a $2,000
grant to assist in the cost of printing the
Stanley Township History Book. Of the 1,500
printed, more than 700 have already been
sold. The $25 book is available at the
Municipal office, The Exeter Times -
Advocate, Clinton Commercial Printers and
at the homes of Bill McAsh, Ivan McCly-
mont, David Turner and Jane Davidson.
Bill Stephenson was paid $200 for three
pigs killed by dogs.
Requests by two property owners to in-
stall groynes costing a total of $12,300 were
approved. Clerk Mel Graham said the
township gives lakeshore residents permis-
sion to install erosion control devices, but

approval must also be obtained from the
ministry of natural resources and from ad-
jacent property owners to the north and
south of applicants.
The council chambers are receiving two
items to add to the decor. Eleanor Coleman
is lending her prize-winning quilt for
display, and the number one edition of the
scenic souvenir sesquicentennial plates,
presented to the township by the ses-
quicentennial committee, will also be on
view.
Clerk Mel Graham said very few people
attend council meetings as spectators; but a
couple of interested ratepayers from one of
the subdivisions dropped in during the latest
session. The woman was quite interested in
the proceedings, as she had served on a
rural Council in the London area.
The ministry of the environment has
ordered that the landfill site be levelled each
Saturday and Monday, instead of the cur-
rent once a week. This will cost $100 for each
additional operation.

Sign bylaw
changed in town
CLINTON - Council here made an addition
to the sign bylaw which will allow portable
temporary signs to be placed on a town
square, walkway or boulevard for the pur-
pose of a special event, provided the sign is
not placed sooner than four hours before the
special event and removed not later than
one hour after the event is over.
A special event is categorized as an auc-
tion, open house, garage sale or recreational
event.
Enter Parade
Clinton will be represented in.the Pioneer
Thresher and Hobby Association Reunion's
parade in Blyth. The event will take place on
September 6 and council has decided to
enter the old fire truck.
Crash claims
second victim

KINCARDINE - Martha Curran, 19, of RR
1, Dungannon, has died as the result of a car
accident near here last week in which
another‘girl was killed.
Curran died Sunday night in London's Vic-
toria Hospital, one week after the car she
was in left Concession Road 8, west of
Highway 21 in Bruce Township. The car
struck a railway crossing sign and rolled
several times.
Curran was thrown from the .car, driven
by 26 -year-old Thomas Park, also of
Dungannon. Tracy Hill, 19, of Bayfield,
died.
Another passenger, Ronald Kerr, 21, of
Goderich, Is in fair condition in Hamilton
General Hospital. Park was discharged
from hospital after the accident.
