something to encourage support for its
preservation.
Mrs. Lance explained, "We planned to
place a large old-fashioned identifying sign
over the front door, as well as placing the
historical marker - perhaps this will still be
•accomplished. With small changes, and
perhaps some limitations on its use, this
building could serve many groups in the
community, and those present do NOT want
• it destroyed. Therefore, we designate the
funds from the Quilt Show which have been
held in escrow by the Bayfield Historical
Society as the first contribution to the Old
Town Hall Renovation Preservation Fund,
if such a one is established."
Later in the'week the Old Town Hall was
the subject of discussion at the Ratepayers'
meeting and details are reported elsewhere.
Mrs. Hunter and Mrs. Lindsay reminisced
over their recollections of theatricals,

focus over the years, and emphasized their
personal feelings that it should not be aban-
doned or torn down.
The next part of the historical society was
held in the Municipal Building. David
Anstett from Clinton was the speaker for the
evening and presented a series of slides
which dealt with precious gems. These in-
cluded a description of the sources, all over
the world, the varieties, color ranges, quali-
ty and examples of famed jewels in wonder-
fully crafted settings. In some instances he
elaborated on the pictures telling of the
history of the stones and the legends
associated with them.
Mr. Anstett also displayed examples of
natural and cultured pearls and a collection
of rings whose settings displayed to great
advantage the quality and beauty of the
stones. Finally he presented members of the
audience with delightful silken jewel eases.
