Harness racing's best drivers to be in Clinton Sunday
CLINTON - Harness racing's best drivers
will be at the track this Sunday, August 10 as
the final King of the $2,500 Claimer race is
run.
In conjunction.with this, the Clinton Public
Hospital will be presenting special awards, as
well as serving a beef,barbecue dinner follow-
ing the races.
Post time is 1:30 p.n1. on August 10 for this
• double special event at the Clinton Raceway.
The third leg of the $2,500 Claiming
Sweepstakes was run at the Clinton Raceway
on August 3.
In the first claiming race, Sweet Noble, own-
ed by Laverne Robson of Dublin finished in
the winner's circle with a race time of 2:04.4.
It was the second win at the Clinton track for
this seven year old horse. Sweet Noble won on
July 27 with a time of 2:05.3, as well as finish-
ed in third position three times this season,
twice in Clinton and once at the Goderich
track.
In the August 3 race at Clinton Sweet No-
ble was followed to the finish line by
Philipedes in second place. Owned by Stephen
Metcalfe of Fergus, the six year old gelding
was driven by Brian Henry.
Third spot went to Riggette, driven by Greg
Darnell for Ron Tweddle of London.
In the second division of the $2,500 claimer,
a come from behind horse, Wilcos Director
made it into the winner's circle for the first
time this season. Dennis Morrissey was
behind the reins of the winner, owned by Larry
Jewitt of Toronto.
It was a big win for Wilcos Director, hav-
ing only finished in third place this season at
Hanover, and with earnings this year of only
$200.
Wilcos Director finished with a winning
time of 2:06.5 and was followed to the wire by
Willas Roger in second place for Edwin and
Bruce Lamont and Brian Glanville, driven by
Brian Henry. In third was Joellas Knight,
driven by Randy McLean and owned by
William Bennett of Seaforth.
In the thrid race of the day the favored
horse, Nans Lite to the win in a time of 2:06.3.
The four year old mare is owned by D.E. and
J.A. Morrissey of London and T.W. Hughes of
Ontario

Sunday's win marked the third in the row
for Nans Lite at the Clinton track and the most
recent win brought in her fastest time at the
track this season.
Steve Bossence drove Perfect Bend to a se-
cond place finish for Virinder Garcha of St.
Thomas and following in third place was Iona
Jet, driven by Gerald Sloan for owners Joseph
Dunsmore of Stratford and Rene Dupuis, of
Seaforth.
Maidens or non -winners with $800 lifetime
earnings ran in the fourth race for a purse of
$700,Brucefield horse, Barbara G. Lee, own-
ed bWilfred and William Ross came in first
in 2:09 for driver Robert Geisel.
Brenda Fountain of London saw her five
year old mare Highland Ruthie take second
place for driver R. Bercht, while Basic Speed
finished in the show position for owner John
Neaman of Ailsa Craig and driver Dennis
Morrisey.
Nuggets Henry brought in the winning time,
in the fifth with 2:07 for owner Wayne Horner
of St. Marys and driver Michael Horner. OK
Dallas, onwed.by Ross Henry and Art Mor-
rison of Arthur and driven by Wayne Henry,
took second place, while RH Barbie Rose was
third. Owned by Gerald Wurm pf Exeter, Bar-
bie was driven by Randy Henry.

the win in 2:05.4 for owner Anthony Vella of
St. Marys and driver Donald Windsor.
Second place saw a dead heat finish for CP
Legal Fighter and Mitola Hi. HP Legal
Fighter is owned by Larry Delellis and was
driven by Alan Sadler. Mitola Hi is owned by
Joe Lane of Seaforth and was driven by Dale
Kennedy
The exactor in the seventh race paid $332.90
for the winning 5-2-6 combination. The five
horse was Lindas Can Am. The seven year old
mare, owned by Alfred Grummett of Stratford
was driven to the win by Robert Campbell.
Highland Ovation was the second horse
across the finish line, for driver Steve
Bossence and owner Gerald Schenk of
Crediton.
In the third place spot was Star of Dallas,
owned by Ronald Masson of Exeter and Nor-
man Hodgins of Parkhill. Ron Masson was
behind the reins.
The best time of the day came in the eighth
race when No Guff ran the one mile pace in
a time of 2:01 for. owners Parcreek
Developments of London and driver Greg
Darnell
The nine .year . old tors_e is no stranger to the
winner's circle. No Guff has taken two other
wins at the Clinton track this season with
times of 2:02 and 2:03. No Guff's earnings of
1986 amount of $256,236.
Iroquois Squadron followed No Guff to the
wire on August 3 in Clinton for driver Steve
Bossence and owner Ronald Sims of London.
In third place was Rogers Vic, for owners
Wayne and Ron Ellecker of Forest. Ron
Ellecker was in the cart for the race.
Babe Cross ran the ninth in a time of 2:03.4
to take the win for owner -driver Alan Sadler
of Parkhill.
Dennis Jewitt of Clinton saw his three year
old colt, DA Dariel, finished in second spot
and third place went to McRoan, owned by
Clorya Dement of Mississauga and driven by
Dennis Morrissey.
There was big money to be won in the tenth
race as the 6-5-8 combination paid off $1,556.60
for the triactor.
Rainy Day Night took the win in the $1,300
pace in a time of 2:08.2. The win was a first
for the three year old colt, owned byParcreek
Developments out of London and driven by
Gerald Sloan.
Good Time Power took second place for

Council hits
the greens
CLINTON - The lawn bowling club hosted--
an
ostedan evening of bowling for council on July 29.
They reported an enjoyable evening for
all involved.
For the evening, Sandy Balfour tied with
Doreen McCallum for the ladies' high, while
Clinton Councillor John Cochrane tied with
Al Lapp for the men's high.
During jitney bowling at the club on July
22, Cliff Ashton had the high for the men and
Kay Lapp was the high lady.
In a Brussels tournament on July 19
Doreen and Hary McCallum came in first.
They again placed first on August 4 in
Goderich.
Blyth will be holding their tournament at
the Clinton club on August 9. •
