Clinton News-Record, 1986-07-23, Page 26Page 8A Homecoming Eventsammamammomimmilinism Varna Singers perform_ for the fun of it The Varna Singers are well known to all who live in Stanley Township and to those who have attended special events in the area. Therefore, it should conte as no sur- prise to hear that the group will be perform- ing during the Homecoming Weekend. The Varna Singers were formed four years ago by organist Marjorie Hayter•after Pete Postill gaveer the idea. At that time, the group consisre of Bob Norman, Bill Dowson, Don Taylor, Pete Postill, Marjorie Hayter, Brenda Consitt and Joyce Dowson. These original members are still a part of the group and have added Lori Hayter, Sherry Chuter, Sharon Clutter and Marg Hayter. An unique aspect of the Varna Singers is their attitude. - "We just have a lot of fun. We meet at each others homes and practice," said Mrs. Hayter. The group has been practising once a week lately but normally tries to take the summer months off. The Varna Singers' perform mainly dur- ing church services but they have sang .at annual meetings and, of course, they took part in the Stanley Township Talent Night held earlier this year. Some songs from their repertoire include Peace In The Valley, Wonderful Time Up Here, Country Roads and Could I Have This Dance. If you have yet to hear the Varna Singers, be sure to look for their float in the Stanley Township Sesquicentennial Parade which will take place at noon on August 2 or attend the church service at the Complex on August 3 at 10:30 a.m. The Varna Singers have pleased the music fans of Stanley Township for four years now. During the Homecoming Weekend they will perform during the parade and at the church service.
