A different approach to handling the large
number of campers for Victoria Day
weekend for 1987 was announced by park
superintendent Ray Bonenberg. "There will
be a reduction in the number of campsites
sold at Pinery as well as an increase in the
enforcement effort" he said. "Burley cam-
pground, which consists of 300 campsites,
will be closed as it is the most difficult to
manage and is the most sensitive
environmentally."
"The 1986 Victoria Day weekend brought
huge numbers of campers which caused
large amounts of vandalism, litter and
rowdyism. Although extra enforcement
staff were brought in, the situation was not
under the control that it should have been",
explained Mr. Bonenberg. Pinery's 1,000
campsites make the enforcement of park
rules difficult.
HUBERT
I would like to thank those who helped at the
scene of the occident, Seaforth Ambulance, Dr.
Salsbury and emergency at Clinton Hospital, Dr.
Grace, Dr. Hurst, I.C.U. nurses and nurses on 8th

sent cards and visited me while in hospital and
since returning home. Thanks also to those who
brought my family to London to see me. It is
greatly appreciated. Paul Hubert. -28x
SALVERDA
I would like to thank my relatives, friends and
neighbours for flowers, cards, gifts and visits
while 1 was in Clinton Hospital. Special thanks to
Dr. Harrett, Dr. Watts, nurses and staff of first
floor. Jai -tonna Solverda.-28
"In 1987", Mr. Bonenberg continued, "we
will again reserve 90 percent of the remain-
ing campsites in the park and send a letter
to each camper explaining the rules and
what will happen if those rules are broken."
The staff at the park feel that with the rules
being explained well in advance, there
should be no•excuse for breaking them. "We
could not deliver the enforcement effort that
we wanted to because of a shortage in staff
and the large number of sites occupied", the
superintendent continued, "that is why the
reduction of sites and the increase in staff".
Bob Wells, natural resources regional en-
forcement specialist out of London added
that " 4'committment is being made to send
extra enforcement officers to Pinery next
Victoria Day weekend to assist park
wardens in the job of park enforcement".
A similar enforcement effort is being
planned for all the holiday weekends
during the summer in,the park.
"Less tolerance for noir and abusive
language with charges laid and evictions
carried out is the message we are trying to
get across", Mr. Bonenberg states.
Pinery Provincial Park is located on the
shores of Lake Huron, eight kilometres
south of Grand Bend on' Highway 21. It has
1,000 operating campsites and endless pic-
nicing opportunities.
