taxes to Clinton in 1985 as a result of
telecommunications operations here. In a4-
ditioa Bell spent I35,000 in 1985 to maintain
and upgrade telephone service in the ex-
change. In 1986 this expenditure is
estimated to be $163,000.
In 1986 Bell's capital expenditures are ex-
pected to total $L5 -billion, with $837 -million
of this sum in Ontario.

reinforcement; facility modernization,
Vanastra; turban and rural relief and
rehabilitation;

In 1985 Bell paid $66,751.45 in taxes to Clin-
ton as follows: real estate, $ 4;
business, $4,284.70 and gross rec ts,
$50,054.25 or $26.07 per phone.
In 1986, gross receipts tax will total
$54,380.95.
The gross receipts tax is a levy of five per
cent of all telecommunications revenue
derived from Bell operations in Ontario the
previous year and apportioned to each ex-
change based on the number of Bell owned
telephones in use in the exchange.

ton's Alice Munro, was made into an half
hour televsion special and shown on Global
on May 25.
The story told about a woman who was
discovering that her marriage was over.
The final straw was her husband's rudeness
towards a favorite aunt.
The story line draws the viewer directly
into the situation and keeps their attention
for the full 30 minutes.
Students to
hold garage sale
CLINTON - Grade 6, 7 and 8 students at
Clinton Public School are preparing to hold
a garage sale on June 14. The sale is being
planned as a fund raiser for the playground
equipment which is hoped to be purchased
and located at the school.
The sale will begin at 9 a.m. and run until
3 p.m.

The building of equipment depends on how
quickly we can raise the money. We will
continue our sales of chocolate bars at
various school and community, events. If
you have any ideas or questions pretaining
to the playground equipment, feel free to br-
ing them to our next meeting on May 29 at
7:30 p.m. at the Clinton Public School. We

Through a bylaw, council authorized the
entering into with other municipalities of an
Area Fire Protection Agreement, and
established a joint fire brigade with other

committee to govern the department, which
will be known as the Blyth and District Fire

from Highway 4 to Victoria Street in
Londesboro on. July 11 from 7 - 11 p.m. and
on July 12 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for Hullett
