Beautificatiofl of village entrance planned
BLYTH - Council- here has given the
local horticultural society the go ahead to
beautify the entrance to the north end of
the village.
Last year a flower garden and village
sign were placed at the south entrance to
Blyth and this year a similar area will be
developed from the north.
Council authorized a $750 donation
r towards the horticultural society to help
finance the project, with the note that ad-
ditional funds will be made available for
the work.
In 1985 council made a donation of $700
. and from 1980 to 1984 grants of $500 a year
were made.
Council was in full agreement with the
1986 increase. Reeve Albert Wasson noted,
-Everything the horticultural society has
done has been well done."
Councillors Bill Manning and Tom
Cronin will work with the group on the
village's behalf regarding the entrance
project.

Play Ball Time
Councillors Tom Cronin and Bill Howson
met recently with Blyth Minor Ball and
representatives from other groups to
discuss the 1986 schedule and use of the
ball diamonds.
The scheduling list was worked out and
several other concerns were discussed in-
cluding: lights at the Radford Diamond;
more bleachers; stones washing on the
diamond; grading the Radford Diamond
and smoothing the outfield; screening in
the players' area at the main diamond;
making a dugout area; relocating the sand
pile; providing portable toilet facilities;
protection around the outfield fence and
repairing the fence at the main diamond.
Council agreed to look into the requests
and act on some immediately.
Garbage Pick -Up Changed
Starting on June 4, garbage pick-up in
Blyth will be moved from Thursday to
Wednesday.
The new houm At the waste disposal site
will beo 41Vem kt all other nd times it will cost
a.m. to 4 p;m.•
$8 per trip to open the site for useerr to
Council is also encouraging villagers
take greater care with the segregation of
their garbage. Newspapers, for example,
should be set aside for the monthly pick-up
by the Lions Clttb. Larger items, such as
furniture, should not be put out with the
regular weekly collection. Reeve Albert
Wasson noted that special days will be held
each spring and fall for the collection of
large items. He noted that currently it is a
costly process to separate the garbage and
taxpayers could save themselves some
. money by taking on this task before collec-
tion is made.
