Tournament will honor "Doc" Milier
CLINTON - On May 24 and 25 the Bob
"Doc" Miller Tournament will be played at
the Clinton Community Centre baseball
diamonds to honor the retiring Mr. Miller.
";He has been the driving- force behind
minor ball for a long time, and he is finally
going to retire," said Tom Fox, 'Vice -
Principal of Central Huron Secondary
School. •'So we thought it would be a good
idea to have a tournament in his name."
Mr. Fox added, however, that he doesn't
believe Doc will remain in retirement from
baseball for too long.
. Eight Pee Wee teams, with boys aged 1.2
and 13, will be attending the tournament.
These teams will come from Milton, Leam-
ington, Walkerton, Lucan, Seaforth,
Dashwood, Goderich and Clinton.
Close to $500 has been raised for the tour-
nament through the Clinton players can-
vassing local business.
"They have been very generous," Mr.
Fox said. "We were delighted with the com-
munity response."
Eight games will be played on May 24, the
first two beginning at 8:30 a.m. Following
these games, they will be played at 10:30
a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The championship
games will be played on May 25.
With the money raised, Mr. Fox said they
would like to get all of the players together
for a large take-out lunch between games.
Two trophies, one for the champions, and
one for the consolation prize will be
awarded.
CHSS makes semi-finals
By David Emslie
CLINTON - Going into the semi-finals, the
Central Huron Secondary School junior soc-
cer team is undefeated.
"We will finish first or second in the
league and we'll be playing in the semi-
finals on May 21," said coach Peter
Zankowski.
With six wins and two ties Mr. Zankowski
feels he has a strong team, and he gave a
reason for this. "The team is so strong
because they came up through minor soccer
first," he said.
The play of Devon Colquhoun, a Grade 9
student at the school has contributed much
to the team.
"He could easily be the top scorer for all
of Huron -Perth with 16 goals over the
regular season, playing only seven games,"
Mr. Zankowski said."
He was quick to point out, however, that
although the team has one big scorer, it has
been a team effort that has brought them
this far.
The semi-final game will be played on the
afternoon of • May 21, and if the ;!am is' vic-
torious in this game, they will advance to
PETER ZANKOWSKI
the final on May 23.
"I think we can win it if everyone is
healthy for the playoffs," Mr. Zankowski
said. "It's like the Stanley Cup playoffs,
with everyone getting up for the games.
