WALTON - Laurie Erb, co-ordinator of
Palliative Care with the Seaforth hospital,
was guest speaker at the general meeting of
the United Church Women at Duff's Church
on May 7. She was introduced by Maxine
Marks, convenor of Church in Society and
thanked by Viola Kirkby.
This was a joint meeting with both units,
providing good attendance.
Marie Coutts, for Walton, was in charge of
devotions. Marie McGavin was the pianist.
Marjorie Humphries read the scripture
followed by Mrs. McGavin's reading. Gloria
Wilbee contributed musical numbers with
her guitar. Judy Emmrish led in prayer and

Music adds to
Rev. Pickell of Goderich was in charge of
the Sunday morning service at Knox United
Church.
Piano Prelude was by Mrs. Barry Millian
and daughter Lori.
The Junior Choir sang "Jesus Loved his
Mother" and "The Family of God" under
the direction of Mrs. Allan Webster and
Mrs. Gordon Gross as pianist. Those baptiz-
ed were Jody Lynn Godfrey, daughter of
Richard and Teresa Godfrey and Shana
Dawn Dunbar, daughter of Donald and
Cathy Dunbar.
There was time for Children who went to
their Sunday School rooms, which was run
by Julia Glenn, Rose Marie Young, Donna
Lynn and Lori Armstrong and Gail Dobie.
The Minister Rev. Pickell chose for his
sermon "Bought with a Price", Offering

Marion Godkin, UCW president, chaired
the business assisted by Marilyn McDonald.
She read the minutes and correspondence.
Mrs. Godkin read a poem.
Announcements for coming events were
given out. An invitation was read from Win-
throp United Church to attend their meeting
June 4 at 8 p.m. That being the regular UCW
meeting, it was decided not to change as a
special speaker has been invited.
It was left that anyone that wished, could
still go on to Winthrop.
Leona McDonald gave the treasurer's
report.
A life membership pin was presented to
Helen Craig with a few words by Marion
Godkin. Margaret Craig pinned the pin on
Mrs. Craig. Mrs. Godkin reported from re-
cent unified board meetings. It is going to be
called Walton-Bluevale Pastoral Charge by
July 1.
Anyone wishing to go to Bonnie Lamble's
ordination at Harriston May 28 is to leave
their name with Marilyn McDonald as soon
as possible. It is hoped to take a bus from
Brussels.
Auburn church service
Verbeek, Ken Ramsey, and Dana Bean and
the ,offertory hymn was played by Lori
Malian and Anita Gross.

Mr. and Mrs. Gino Tersinga and Mary of
Rexdale and Mrs. Loran Peter, of Bervie
were Saturday visitors with Beth Lansing.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Young of Stratford
and Craig Ritchie of Goderich visited
recently with Ellen Johnston and Laura
Phillips.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lawlor, Andrea and
Alexandra of RR 5 Goderich visited his
parents Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawlor on
Sunday.
Quite a number from Auburn attended the
Induction service for Rev. Patricia Anne
Nunne, B.A., M,DIV, as rector of St. John's
Parish Brussels, Trinity Blyth and St.
Mark's'Anglican, Auburn, Thursday, May 8.
Lunch was served prior to the business by
Marie McGavin, Edith Wey and Dorothy
McNichol.
Local Briefs
Something new in Walton is the C and M
Ice-cream. At present it will be hard ice-
cream (take-out) at the front off the Gamble
store on Main Street. Slush puppies, cones,
sundaes and shakes as well as coffee can be
purchased, ice cream for dieters too. C and
M is open Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. -
10 p.m., Friday, 11 a.m. -11 p.m. and Satur-
day, 9 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Marion McFarlane and Jean 'McFarlane
of Almonte visited with Maxine Marks,
Audrey Hackwell, Phyllis Mitchell. Elva
Bolger dropped in to see the girls as they
had all known them when they lived around
Winthrop a number of years ago.
Remember May 17 is the garage and bake
sale in Walton, south of the tracks.
Church News
Christian Family Sunday at Duff's United
and Bluevale United Churches saw Bonnie
Lamble minister to both charges. At
Walton, Betty McCallum greeted worship-
pers at the door. Marion Godkin was the
organist.
The children of the Sunday School sang an
anthem accompanied by Gloria Wilbee on
the guitar. Elizabeth, Sarah and Barbara
read the scripture lessons. The ushers were
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Craig and family of
St. Jacobs were at their trailer on the
weekend and visited with their parents.
Mrs. Roy Cope of London visited last
Wednesday with her cousin, Marjorie
McDougall.
The regular monthly meeting of Auburn
Women's Institute will be held in Communi-
ty Hall May 20 at 2 p.m. Liz Stewart of
Seaforth, the Huron County Dairy Princess
will speak.
Mrs. C. Merrill will be demonstrating the
tying of scarves. Hostesses will be Mrs. L.
Plaetzer, Mrs. E. Rodger and Mrs. T.
Jardin.
Unit II of Auburn United U.C.W. met in
the Church on May 7 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Tom
Cunningham and Mrs. Tom Jardin were the

presided and opened with a Call to Worship.
Mrs. Mac Scott read scripture followed by
a meditation by Ivy Cloakey on the theme
generosity. Mrs. Garner Nicholson led in
prayer.
Mrs. McBurney gave the topic sharing,
loneliness and learning hope.
The secretary's report was given by Mrs.
McBurney and Mrs. Cloakey gave the
treasurer's report.
Mrs. Dunbar closed the meeting with
prayer and lunch was served by the hostess.
Institute News
The Womens Institute is holding their 75th
anniversary on May 20 at 7 p.m. with a
dessert and coffee followed by a program.
Rev. John G. Roberts will be the guest
speaker.
A pot luck supper in the Women's Institute
Hall was enjoyed prior to the euchre, where
14 tables were in play.
Winners were; high lady, Mrs. George
Johnston; most lone hands lady, Mrs. Frank
Thom; low lady, Mary Chamney; high man,
Leslie vincent; most lone hands man, Mel
Jaklin; low man, Frank Thom. First luck
draw for lady and man: Mrs. Gordon Louttit
and Gordon Louttit; second lucky draw for
lady and man: Mrs. Jim Coultes and George
Michie. Marked chairs: Mrs. Dave Murray
and Lewis Stonehouse.
There will be euchre on May 14 at 8 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse spent the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Maitland
Edgar, Dean and Dianne of Petrolia. On
May 11 they all attended Mother's Day and
Baptismal service at St. Paul's United
Church.
Seven infants were admitted into the
church, by baptism including Meghan
Kathleen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael
Park of Petrolia.
Others attending the service were her
great grandparents Mr. and Mrs. John
Bowman and son Jim of RR5 Brussels; Miss
Brenda Edgar of Wingham; Mr. and Mrs.
Barry Edgar and family of Petrolia and Mr.
and Mrs. Brian Edgar and family of
Brigden.
Following the service all relatives met at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Park for
a smorgasbord dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Procter, Mark,
Kyle, Kirk and Andrea of London; Mr. and
Mrs. George McGee and Mr. and Mrs. Jim
McGee and Robbie of RR 3 Wingham; Mrs.
Marion Strauss and Darie Rankin of
Waterloo and Mrs. Dorothy Procter of
Belgrave were dinner guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Don Procter, of RR. 5
Brussels, following the baptism of their son
Carl Raymond.
Relatives attending the baptism of Court-
ney Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry

and Steve Noble visited on Mother's Day
with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pryce and family
in Winthrop.
Residents are sorry to hear that Albina
Gulutzen of Brussels and formerly of this
area, is a patient in Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don. She is suffering from a stroke taken on
May 11.
Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Mitchell entertain-
ed their family on Mother's Day when all
were home for dinner at noon.
Mr. and Mrs. Roily Achilles were hosts to
their family on Mother's Day when a shower
was held for Debbie Achilles who is to be
married in June.
The Walton Area Sports Club held its mon-
thly meeting on May 5 at the home of presi-
dent Dave Gamble.
Winners of the monthly draw were Marie
McGavin - $100 and Bruce Raymond - $25.
They have planned a pitchers clinic for May
31 and there will be a Pee -Wee ball tqurna-
ment in June.
