Dear Mr. Harkema
I received your letter and had
it translated into English. We
have 330 acres of land, 130
acres where we live with 15
acres of bush, 200 acres of grass
land, bush and swamp. We
grow general crops, only
vegetables for our own use. We
have 10 cows milking and feed a
number of beef cattle, mostly
have pigs but none at the pre-
sent time. We have a tractor
and five horses.
The house you will occupy is
in good shape, a large cement
block house 11/2 miles from the
from Auburn read:) village of Blyth. There is no
hydro or water in it, there will
be land for a nice garden beside
the house.
The winters are co er
the weather is nice now and we
are starting to sow grain. Bring
necessary things in line of
clothes, bedding, dishes. We
will see about tables, chairs,
stove when you come.
We are 14 miles from
Goderich on Lake Huron, that
is the largest town near us. I
am of English descent, we have
10 children, 7 boys and 3 girls.
The oldest fourteen.
There are a lot of vacant
farms around here, you will
have no trouble securing a
farm in the near future.
Hope you have a pleasant trip
and see you all soon.
