In fact this busy community was first settled by a Dutch family back over a century ago. In 1831 when Clinton was no more than a wooded forest, brothers Peter and Stephen Vanderburgh travelled into this area. The Dutch natives decided to make their home at "the cor- ners", later to become the Town of Clinton. They built the first log house, established the first tavern for miles r around, and the first children to be born in the communi- ty were daughters for each of the Vanderburghs. Today Dutch -Canadians still express the determination, hard working spirit and good will that the Vanderburghs brought to this area. Since Clinton's earliest beginnings the Dutch have played an important part here. Thank you for your contribution, it's made Clinton the best place to live!
