Tykes are runners-up for "$" division

The Blyth Tykes participated in a Clinton
hockey tournament last weekend with seven
other teams involved. With the adverse
weather conditions experienced on Friday,
they were thrown of schedule at the beginn-
ing of the tournament. But Saturday was
rnuch better and all games booked for Fri-
day evening were played early Saturday.
Blyth played Clinton first, losing by a tight
squeeze of 2-1. The team then went on to
play for the "B" championship. They beat
their next opponents, Exeter no. 1, with a
score of 7-0. It was a shut -out for Jason
Rutledge.
After this defeat, they advanced on to the
finals. They played an excellent game but
lost to Exeter by a 3-1 score. Afterwards, all
the team members received silver
medallions in recognition of being the
runners-up for the "B" division.
Lost Heir
Last week there were six tables of people
out to play lost heir. The high lady was
Evelyn Smith, while Edger Howatt was the
high man. Harvey Sillib and Fern Howatt
were the winners of the low man and woman
for the evening.
Lost heir will be held again Wednesday
night at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Hall. Come
out and attend for a night of relaxation and
cards.
"Brownies is a
BLYTH - Brownies is a fun place to be as
one Blyth Brownie put it when she gave her
speech at school last week, telling about the
Brownie sleep over last year and hoping this
year would be as fun. Under the leadership
of Brown Owl - Brenda Burkholder, Tawny
Owl - Joan Clark and Hoot Owl - Azetta Gib-
bons, 19 Brownies spent a night at Camp
Kirkton on February 14-15.
The girl's learned about frostbite and
hypothermia and other aspects of winter
safety. Skatinmames, singing and burying
a chocolate banana in the snow for a morn-
ing snack were some of the activities the
girl's enjoyed. Othe adult helpers were
Olwen and Leah Richmond, the cooks, and
Brown Owl's neice Sandra Rennick a Junior
Leader from Monkton. Visitors Friday night
were Camp Advisor Janet Cameron and her
husband Jim and District Commissioner,
Carol Strickland was present on Saturday
afternoon. Badges that were earned on the
camping trip include, singing, holiday and
the Brownie winter adventure. Each girl
received a Camp Kirkton Crest.
Scout -Guide Week was spent learning
more about their founders, about Brownies
in other countries and the Canadian Friend-
ship Fund. The Brownies made Thinking
Euchre
On Monday evening, there were enough
people out to fill 12 tables for euchre. The
highs for the night went to Ruby Uolmage
and Charlie Bromley. Low for the evening
were Mrs. Harvey Craig and Ray .Lair.
Mary Shawbrook and Joe Holmes won the
prize for the most lone hands and the special
for the evening went to Dorothy Townsend.
Euchre will resume again Monday night
at 8 p.m. in town hall. Everyone is welcome.

Day cards for the Beavers. They also par-
ticipated with their sister Guides in the
Christmas tree burning to honor Lord
Baden-Powell and Lady Baden-Powell's
joint birthdays on February 22.
Some interesting activities are planned
for the month of March.
On March 3 the girl's had a parachute at
their meeting. Beaver Leader Connie
Bromley was there to assist in the games.
A Brownie mother was video-taping this
meeting to be shown at a later date. Later in
the month, Thelma and Jim Wilson will be
coming out to a meeting to show the girls
some steps in modern square dancing.
Margaret Dunbar is hostess

BELGRAVE-The Belgrave Women's Mis-
sionary Society held its meeting at the home
of Margaret Dunbar on March 3.
Mrs. Garner Nicholson presided and open-
ed with the call to worship and then gave a
reading.
Ivy Cloakey read the scripture, Robena
McBurney gave a meditation and Mrs. Dun-
bar led in prayer.
Mrs. McBurney gave the secretary's
report and the treasurer's report was given
by Mrs. Cloakey. The topic was taken by
Mrs. Mac Scott.
Mrs. Nicholson closed the meeting with a
reading. The hostess served lunch and a

social time was enjoyed.
- Weekly Euchre
Nine tables were in play at the weekly
euchre which was held in the Womens In-
stitute Hall on March 5. Winners were: high
lady, Mrs. Wilford Caslick; novelty lady,
Gertrude Alien; low lady, Mrs. Stanley
Black; high man; Albert Quipp; novelty
man, Les Vincent and low man, Norman
Coultes.
There will be euchre tonight starting at 8
p.m. Everyone -is welcome.
Education Meeting
The education meeting of the Belgrave
Women's Institute will be held on March 18,
at 8:15 p.m. in the Belgrave Womens In-
stitute Hall. The special guest speaker is Ar-
nold Mathers, superintendent with the
Huron County Board of Education.

Explorers make dolls

The Explorers' meeting was held March 4
in the church. The members opened the
meeting by making corn -cob dolls. They
said the Explorer Purpose and sang the Ex-
plorer Song. They also celebrated World
Day of Prayer with the help of Rev. Snihur.
Mrs. Hoggart showed members how to
plant zinnia plants.
Denise Hulley thanked Rev. Snihur for
coming to help with the World's Day of
Prayer celebration.

A hymn sing was enjoyed for 15 minutes
before the sermon. It was led by Rev. Sniih.uc...
with Gail Lear at the piano.
The cross was decorated with purple cloth
by Dave and Caron Snihur.
The children's topic was "The Magic Pen-
ny". They were told that by giving away
love, it multiplies. Junior teachers were Lin-
da and Angela Horbanuick.
Flowers on the memoriam stand were in
loving memory of Gladys Armstrong by her
husband Jack and family. She died March 7,
1983.
The World's Day of Prayer service was
cancelled on March 7 due to weather condi-
tions. It will be held at the U.C.W. meeting
on March 17 at 8 p.m.

The sermon topic was "Forgive as we
Forgive". The minister talked about un -
forgiveness -as a roadblock on the road to
know God.
Shuffleboard
There were 12 present at shuffleboard
play on March 5. High score went to Vietta
Hoggart.
The next game will be held March 19 as
March 12 is cancelled. All are welcome.
