Down by two goals Mitchell put the pressure on and Mitchell's high scorer Korry Dietz was able to get a break away which was foiled by atom, defenseman Scott Jewitt when he used his speed to get back just in time to tip Dietz's stick. He then was able, while sprawled on the ice to slide the puck to Chipchase who sped up the ice with Dykstra in a two on one. The defenseman centered his attention on Dykstra which allowed Chipchase to freely beat the goalie. The first period ended with Clinton scor- ing three goals in less than a minute to go ahead by a score of 4-1. Clinton's efforts were slowed in the second period as they were forced to kill a number of penalties. Clinton's defence was equal to the task as Captain John "Dog" Bezaire led his forces, including the hard -digging Craig Caldwell, who performed admirably at skating the puck out of his own end or dump- ing it into the Mitchell zone. During one two minute penalty, Mitchell failed to get a shot pn net. During Clinton's fourth penalty Mitchell managed to bring the puck behind the net and tuck the goal into the corner in one of their patented scoring plays.
