HOLMESVILLE-The London Area
Women's Institute Curator's Workshop for
the counties of Agin, Oxford, Huron, Mid-
dlesex, and Perth was held August 13, at the
Goderich Township Community Centre,
Holmesville. There were some 70 ladies
present.
The Institute Ode was sung with Mrs Jas.
Lobb at the piano, the accompanist of the
day. The chairman was Mrs-. Roy Ross of
London and the acting secretary -treasurer
was, Mrs. Jas. Robertson of Lucan as Mrs.
A. Harris of London could not attend. The
minutes of 'last year's Workshop at Col-
dstream were read. Mrs. Ross conducted
the business of the day. An invitation for
next year's workshop came fro n the
Wallacetown ladies.
The poem, `Canadian Born', written by
Pauline Johnson, Indian poetess, was sung
by Mrs. Mervyn Lobb.
The first speaker of the day was Alison
Lobb of Goderich Township. She spoke on
Photography for Posterity. She outlined the
history of photography over the years, il-
lustrated the types of photography. and their
uses in historical records. She was

presented with a London Court House plate
from the London area and a Goderich
Township 'book, which she had edited, by
Mrs. M. Lobb, representing the Huron West
District.
The ladies brought box lunches and were
served hot and cold drinks and cookies at
noon, before the morning program and
before the ladies left for home by Mrs. Wm,
Porter.
At the noon hour souvenirs of Goderich
Township 150 Celebrations were available
for the ladies. Each were given a copy of the
Goderich Township flyers.
The afternoon program began with a sing-
song. The three speakers were from the
Perth Archives. Mr. Jas. Anderson spoke on
the case of Tweedsmuir Books. and good
materials for saving records, Lutzen
Riedstra on the care and storage of old
photos and Susan Luckhardt on types of
paper. The Chinese were the_ earliest
makers of paper and it was acid free. Cotton
was used for a base, then wood chips.

have returned to Brooks, Alberta after
holidaying with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.
Lee in Clinton and her mother, Violet Ross
of Brucefield.
Robert Dalrymple is still confined to
Seaforth Hospital.
Jerry and Wendy Bailey fo Alliston spent
last weekend with Aldie Mustard.
Beginning September 1, church services

HENSALL-The first phase of the Hensall
United Church Centennial'Uook was started
with pictures being taken for the photo
directory. The overwhelming response to
the photo directory boot which will be one
of the historical books of `the congregation,
has been appreciated.
The remaining pictures are being taken
on September 4,5. and 6. Anyone' who hasn't
made arrangements • to h ve their photo
taken are asked to call Dian 'e'Gerstenkorn.
Congratulations to Mr. a d Mrs. Stephen
Thompson, the former Jul Van Baaren,
local hairdresser; on their arriage in the
United Church on Satur ay afternoon.
Stephen and Julia will be living in the Lily
Smith home on London Road in Hensall.
Betty Jinks was soloist at the Ujiited
Church on Sunday. Rev. Stan McDonald led
the service. Dorothy Parker greeted the
congregation and Chuck Mallette, Tim
Mann, Glenn Slade and Rae Jaeobe were
the ushers.
The flowers at the front of the church were
placed in memory of Ken Upshall, who died
one year ago, and also in memory of Frank
Parsons by his family of the ,congregation
Helen Thompson and Mary O'Brien.

Catharine Corbett holidayed with her
grandmother Hazel Corbett last week.
RCMP Sgt. Douglas Wein, Mrs. Wein and
David of Ottawa are holida ing with their
parents Mr. and Mrs. Harold. Parker and
Margaret Wein of Exeter.
Mr. and Mrs. Don MacLaren of Oakville
visited last week With Don's mother, Bertha
MacGregor.
Ken and Eileen McLean returned home
this week from holidays in Baraboo, Wiscon-
sin. They attended the international gather-
ing of old Allis collectors at - the Badger
Speed Show. Sixty people attended the
August 17 dinner.

Cleveland, Ohio attending the' 40th wedding

Mrs. Ross MacMillan of Waterloo visited
last Friday With her mother Mrs. Laird
Mickle. They spent the day in Bayfield and
lunched at the Little Inn.
Rev. Kenneth Knight led the Sunday ser-
vice at the Carmel Presbyterian Church on
August 25. Edith Bell of Exeter played the
piano. The Presbyterian Church Women
were reminded of their upcoming meeting
on Monday, September 9 at 8 p.m. Roll call.

week with his sister, Hazel Corbett.
Mrs. J. Barr and Jean Mangle of New
Jersey visited with Mrs. C. Christie. They
visited their relative Jessie Brock at the
�Bluewater Nursing Home.

Queensway news
Several residents from the Queensway
Nursing Home travelled to Storybook
Gardens, London and, lunched at Spr-
ingbank, Park last week.
Rev. Richaird Hawley from the Exeter
United Church led the August 20 church ser-
vice. It was Mr. Hawley's first time
preaching at the nursing home. Bob
Cameron played the piano and volunteers
Fern Dougall, Alma Langford and Olive
Harvey assisted in the service.
Father. Mooney visited the home 0
August 21. The Baking Club met on August
21. Poetry readings and walks filled the day
on August 22. Movies were shown in the
evening. August 23 the August birthday par-
ty was held.
Reids purchase restaurant

VARNA - Mr. Fred Reid, who has been
staying with his daughters this sun liner, has
taken up residence in Huronview.
Jerry and Jean Reid have purchased the
restaurant and gas station., in Londesboro
and are. moving this weekend. They have
sold their home to Brenda Burma who is a
sister of Helen Keys. We'd like to welcome
Brenda and her son to our community.
Charles Reid and Bill McAsh won a trophy
for runners -un at the shuffleboard tourna-
ment in 1 xeter held in. connection with
Sportsfest_There was lots of competition, so
congratulations!
Jean Reid won first prize in the crib quilt
class at Bayfield Fair with her bunny quilt.
She was second in the large quilt class.
Church services next Sunday return to the
normal times of 10 a.m. at Varna and 11:30
at Goshen. Sunday School resumes the
following. Sunday. Foam insulation has been
applied to the walls of the Sunday School
room. Gerald Coleman has done the strapp-
ing and will be applying wallboard. •
Humane Society holds draw
CLINTON - The Huronia Branch of the
Ontario Humane • Society held a draw 'at
their booth at the Bayfield Fair on August
24. •
Two hard cover books; one on cats, the
other on dogs, were donated by Audrey
Granani of baytlelfi. Lori Whetstone of
Bayfield won the cat book and the dog book
was won by Beverley ' Pounder, also of
Bayfield.
Also available at the booth were pens and
1986 calendars which are available from all
board members.
LACAC monthly meeting

p.m., the Local Architectural Conservation
Advisory Committee ( LACAC) will be
holding its regular monthly meeting.
. All meetings, are open, and this reminder
is given as this meeting should be of par -
tibular interest. During • the summer.
LACAC has engaged the services of a stu- •
dent to study the village from a heritage
aspect. The final results of his work will be
presented at this nieeting. .
