tops show
t I.INTON - Karen Whitmore of Clinton
displayed outstanding green thumb
abilities this year at the Clinton
Horticultural Flower Show. Karen won the
society's award for the highest number of
points in the show.
The 1985 showing marked the third time
that Karen has taken part in the
horticultural flower, show. Last year she
finished in fourth place.
This year Karen was among the 28 adult
exhibitors to take part in the August 23
display, held at Central Huron Secondary
School. Exhibitors •showed 242 floral
displays; while seven junior .gardeners
showed 56 exhibits and one elementary
school exhibitor showed four displays.
Gwen Holland, another familiar name to
gardening in Clinton, earned the second
highett number' of points U. the show and
won the Clinton News -Record Award.
,Another yearly winner, Jean McEwan,
took third place and received • the
Verbeek's Farm and Garden Centre
Award. Pat Holland had the fourth highest
number of' points and received the Anstett
Jeweller's Award.
Gwen. Holland displayed the best
arrangement in the show and earned the .
Margaret Anderson Award. Jeanette
Martin showed the best arrangement of
gladioli r.nd received the Stewart and
(;race Middleton Memorial Award.
First time exhibitor, Alice Buchanj�,,n,
received the Mrs. R. First Award for the
highest number of points for a first time
exhibitor. She also won a prize, donated by
Cela Sloman, for, the best bouquet of sweet
p,peas.

dahlia bloom and earnedtheEvelyn Olde
Award,
Cash awards, donated by Jean McEwan,
went to Karen Whitmore, Gwen Holland
and Kathleen Whitmore, for their top
showint collections of marjigglds. Cash
awards, donated by Florentenla Marquis
for class 58, went to Roberta Plumsteel,
Karen Whitmore and Florence Pullen.

with criminal negligence causing death.
Kevin Bruce Koehler, 20, of Winghart who

nal injuries has also been charged with
criminal negligence causing injury, failure
to stop for police and driving while under
suspension. C -
Three people including an OPP officer,- a
teenager mother of two and her friend were
killed when a car collided with a police
cruiser as it was attempting to make a U
turn on thehighway.
Constable Craig Campbell, 24, of the Kin-
cardine detachment, . a passenger, in the
police cruiser, was killed. Two passengers
in the Koehler car, Helen Michelle Wattam,
17 of Bluevale who was to be married later
the same day and her friend. ehristine
Accident causes
KIPPEN - A Goderich area women was
taken to hospital with major injuries utter a
single vehicle accident on Hwy 4, three
kilometers north of Kippen on August 24, ac-
cording to the Goderich detachment of the
OPP.

A Winghana OPP cruiser spotted a car.
travelling at a high rate of speed north of
Wingham on Highway 4. The policeman pur-
sued the speeding car and radioed for help
when he lost the car.
Two Kincardine OPP cruisers 'eastbound
on Highway 9 were alerted. OPP
spokesman Gary Gaeler said O'Sullivan and
Campbell were trying to set up a running
roadblock when their cruiser was hit broad-
side by the fleeing car, pushing it into the
ditch where the cruiser caught fire.

6,000 damage
Winnifred Keen of RR5 Goderich was
taken to Clinton Public Hospital after she
lost control of her car while travelling north-
bound on Hwy 4 and struck the east ditch.
The damage to the vehicle is estimated at
$6,000. '

of points. •
Jodi Castle earned the.highest number of
Obits in the junior gardener division to
earn a prize donated by Pat Holland.

she received an award donated by Marion.
McCann. Third place finisher, Mark
MacLeod earned an award donated by
Margaret Slornan.

NUMERATION
Starting September 3, 1985, an enumerator, carrying a proper identification
card, will call at your residence for a few minutes to check basic information
required in.determining:
• your eligibility to vote in the municipal and school board elections to be held on
November 1.2 this year;
• the allocation of education property taxes between the public and separate
school systems;
• the distribution of provincial grants to local governments to help reduce tax
bills;
• the preparation of jurors' lists; and
• population information needed for other municipal programs.
The enumerator must record such information as the name, age, property
status (e.g. owner or tenant), school support and residency of all members of
the household.
When the enumerator visits, please check that the information on the
Enumeration Notice is correct. If it is not, revise it and verify the changes.
If you are not home, a Notice will be left for you. If changes are necessary,
please make them and mail the Enumeration Notice, as soon as possible, in the
pre -addressed postage prepaid envelope accompanying the Notice. For any
additional information, please contact the local assessment office.
