game.
But during the deg -days of August, the
youngsters get restless. They've been off
school since June and have completed all of
their favorite activities at least 30 times.
But they've pot the only ones who are getting
a little restless. Mom and dad are just about
'ready to ship them off to a favorite aunt in
Brazil 'or maybe put the grandparents' pa-
tience to the test.
The. Clinton Recreation Department has
• 'made the summer months more enjoyable
for area children, and perhaps their
parents, by offering the Clinton Playground
program.
Special entertainment, such as Deborah
Dunleavy, a trip to Canada's Wonderland,
and everyday activities such as swimming
a

and rollerskating have been offered.
Summer Fun 'Lympics9 was held on
August 14 with playground participants
from Vanastra, Blyth and Hanover joining
the Clinton children for a day filled with
sporting events. In total, there were 160
children running, jumping, throwing and
swimming at Clinton's Community Park
and Pool.
Along with the sporting events offered, the
playground program allows the children to
use their imagination in puppet shows and
craft days and display their talents during a
talent show.
An upcoming event that is sure to delight
the youngsters is lead the leaders day. On
August 29, the second to last playground
day, the kids get to play whatever game
they want, do whatever craft they wish to
and sing their favorite songs. The
playground not only offers children a
chance to stay active during the summer,
but it gives them the opportunity to meet
new friends and play in a well supervised
area.
Playground is an excellent summer pro-
gram. Let's hope that it is available for
years to come;
Track holds Seaforth Day
By Toby Rainey
CLINTON - Despite the temperamental
whims of Mother Nature, a sloppy track, a
couple of minor spills, several brief power
outages that shut down the mutuals, a tor-
nado warning, and the presence of a human
dynamo on a winning streak, ,Seaforth Day
at Clinton I ac .way was a happy success for
everyone concerned.
The day was organized by Seaforth's most
prominent race promoter, Rene Dupuis, and
by Clinton Race Secretary Ian Fleming, in
recognition of the large number of Seaforth
horsemen and fans that support the' Jocal
track. Colorful coolers were presented to the
winner of each race, each with the name of
the business donating it, Seaforth's mayor,
Alf Ross; presented a blanket to the winner
of the feature pace on behalf of the Town of
Seaforth.
The human dynamo was driver Steve
Bossance of Delaware, who set an . unof-
ficial record for the Ciintontrack on August
18 with six wins ir1 six drives,,,a feat which
will doubtless make fans sit up and take
notice the next time his name. appears on a
program: Bossance has only been to Clinton
once before this season, "chalking' up just
.one-third and two eighth -place finishes on
July 7.
The high point of the day for Seaforth fans
was favorite driver John Muir's win with
Brian Glanville's mare gut A11, Knight in the
eighth race, to claim the United Trails Inc. ,.
cooler presented by manager Don Coleman.
Muir, Glanville and trainer Bruce Lamont
are all from Seaforth.
Out All Knight specializes in cliff-hanger
battles from wire to wire. Last week, her op-
ponent was another Seaforth mare, Joe
Lanes Becky Hi Becky Hi won by a
whisker Aug. 11 for a new personal record),
while this week she battled Clinton favorite
Poppy Love ( owned, trained and driven by
Wayne Dupee) stride for stride, winning in a
photo in 2:07 3/5.
In the fourth race, Johnny Muir and
Baronal closed a two -length lead at the top
of the stretch to win over Bynana Bay, for
the 12 -year-old stallion's second win of the
season here, putting his lifetime winnings to
almost $90,000. Dr. Brian Nuhn of the
Seaforth Vet Clinic presented the cooler to
Baronal's ownerand trainer, Wayne and
Mike Horner of St. Marys.. Earlier, the"
Horner stable also captured the Commer-
cial Hotel cooler with Nugget's Henry,
driven, by Steve Bossance,

rush to the wire, to take home the Seaforth
Freese King cooler, presented by manager
Ron Riley.
Race fans are reminded that next week
Clinton hosts the Ontario Sires Stakes for 3 -
year -old trotting colts, with the best colts in
the province competing for more than
$30,000 in purses.
Accidents cost
Accidents cost Ontario farmers millions
of dollars each year. The lack of a com-
prehensive safety program can greatly
reduce your profits. Equipment
breakdowns, delays, medical costs, are just
a few of the factors that will affect your
balance sheet. In view of the economic
times we now face, farmers cannot afford to
be without an effective safety program..
