New application forms for the ministry of
41)
tourism and recreation's Wintario Develop-
ment Program grants are now available.
Community or provincial non-profit
organizations which provide recreation pro-
grams in Ontario can apply for assistance.
"For the past 10 years Wintario Develop-
ment grants have been used to train recrea-
tion professionals and expand opportunities
for recreation, particularly in remote com-
munities," says John Eakins, minister of
tourism and recreation.
"This year's program builds', on these
achievements and has been expanded to
place emphasis on projects for older adults
and disabled individuals. Ontarians have
more access to recreation because of the
Wintario Development Program."
The Wintario Development Program has
improved the quality of recreation leader-
ship by establishing training seminars that
develop skilled leaders and has also helped
recreation organizations run better opera-
tions by providing them with management
and planning skills information.
Some of the many projects eligible for
consideration include special promotion
campaigns designed to attract participants,
volunteer recruitment and training pro-
grams, organizational effectiveness studies,
and start-up costs for new leagues or clubs.
Special consideration is also given to pro-
jeets that highlight opportunities for women
and youth.
' Applications are now being accepted by
the ministry. Provincial recreation, sports
and fitness organizations can apply to the
appropriate program branch in Toronto.
Community and area organizations can app-
ly through the appropriate ministry of
tourism and recreation regional office.

Bluewater Country has long been praised
as a fisherman's paradise and young
Stacey Adderley, of Toronto had a
successful fishing day in Blyth on July 27.
Stacey discovered a new fishing hole, a
children's game, at the Blyth Festival
Country Fair. Stacey made two good
catches. (Below). An annual favorite
attraction at the Blyth Festival Country
Fair is portrait drawings, done by Anne
Anglin, one of Blyth's best known
actresses. Ann Webster was one of her
many models. (Shelly McPhee photos)
