On Wednesday, July 17, they will be man-
ning the spits, as enough beef to feed -the ex-
pected crowd of approximately 1,000, at the
sesquicentennial barbecue, at the Township
Hall, from 5-7 p.m.
Although Crawford and Preszcator's
wide -scale barbecuing operations are a
source of entertainment themseleves, the
event will also feature a number of other ac-
tivities.
A King 'and Queen of Goderich Township
will be choosen. The competition is open, to
any township residents, the only criteria be-
ing they must be old enough to "asumme the
job with responsibility and pride," says 1-5-0
committee member Alison Lobb.
A beard -growing contest will also be part
of the fun, and many township residents
have long -since sworn off shaving, in an ef-
fort to grow a beard that will be judged the
best in one of several categories.
The No -Notes band will also be on hand, to
provide a musical atmosphere for the event.
The food and entertainment aside, the

ceremony. Already, snore. than 30 people
have .been found and the committee is ex-
peCting even more octogenarians come- for--
ward before the event. Anyone knowing of
people eligible for the recognition should
contact a 1-5-0 comrxiiittee Member.
Two youthful Goderich residents and their
parents will also be prominent at the;,
'recognition ceremony. Jeanette -Catharine,
daughter of , Don and Marlene Welsh, who
was the first baby born to a township couple
in 1985 is one. The other is the first baby ac-
tually born "in" the township. During a
February stored; a daughter, Jennifer Em-
ma was born to Harry and"Edna Greydanus,
and she was delivered at home. .
With all these activities going on, Bill
Crawford and Gary Preszcator will need to
have plenty of food on hand, because
everyone is sure to work up an appetite.
Figuring on half a pound of meat per person,
Prezcator said, they are planning to cook
between 400 and 500 pounds of beef, making
the township barbecue the single largest
beef event they have catered.
The cooks have enlisted a total of about
eight assistants for their cooking team and
have already spoken for three open -pit style
barbecues to handle the job.
The actual cooking is a day -long job for
the chefs, who will begin lighting the fires
about nine hours before the guests sit down
to eat.
Bill Crawford and Gary PreZeator':sbar'becae' extravaganzas are always.
a hit with the kids. Belbw: watching the meat cook can be fun
