Lester said the ministry adopted a policy on pref red accommodation several years ago, b , t because of the possible class , distinetio , Huronview had decided not to have such a policy However, Lester said recent requests. from residents pushed -him into submitting the report, firstly to Huron County council then the provincial -ministry. County council gave approval at its July 3 meeting. The report has now been sent to the ministry. Preferred accommodation won't be available "at Huronview, located just south of Clinton on. Highway 4, until the ministry okays. it .,and then only if the resident re- quests it. ALAI ICA, 6 tWR e m* e >, over the Idl on sought t .Lester said •the difference ,between a regular roomand a preferred accommoda- tion room will/be noticeable in the interior decorating which is ch©sen by the resident. Also, closet space *ill be larger and fur- niture will be of'a better quality. • Preferred accommodation rooms will be a little more homier," said Mr. Lester noting that rooms now have painted walls. The maximum rate for preferred accom- modation will be $32.49, an amount set by the province. Huronview, said its ad- ministrator, can charge less than that amount but not more. His plan calls for 77 of Huronview's 171 ex- tended care beds to be phased -in as prefer- red accommodation beds. That number is the maximum, percentage wise, allowed by the ministry. Of these beds, 21 will be private and 56 will be semi -private. Lester expects it will be a year before the preferred accommodation beds are phased - Extended care residents pay up to $18.94 a day at Huronview. The amount between tt and $42 a day is covered by OHIP and an costs over that amount are paid in a 70-30 ratio by the province and Huron County. The extra costs usually involve nursing care. Residential care at Huronview costs $31.94 a day and is not subsidized by any government. There are 310 beds in total at Huronview. Ma Bell pays Clinton $60,000 CLINTON - Bell Canada paid more than $60,000 in taxes to Clinton in 1984 as a result of telecommunications operations in the Clinton exchange. In addition Bell spent $3,921,000 in 1984 to maintain and upgrade telephone service in the exchange. In 1985 this expenditure is estimated to be $500.000. Some of the 1984 highlights: +DMS -100 digital multiplex switching equipment and ancillary facilities. +Replace aerial with buried cable, County +B Buried cable, Albert St., to facilitate bank computerizing teller service. • +Buried rural cable, for conversion from party to private lines. Some of the 1985 highlights: +Buried cable, Vanastra, for industrial ex- pansion. +Cable reinforcement, Victoria St. +Buried cable, Highway 4 S to Huronview Nursing Home. In 1984 Bell paid $61,890.71 in taxes to Clin- ton as follows: real estate, $11,676.71; business, $4,086.15 and gross receipts, $46,127.85.. In 1985 gross receipts tax will total: $50,054.25. The gross receipts tax is a levy of five per cent of all telecommunications revenue derived from Bell operations in Ontario the previous year and apportioned to each ex- change based on the number of Bell owned telephones in use. In 1984 Bell's capital expenditures were $1.17 billion. This is expected to be $1.4 billion in 1985. In the Stratford area Bell employs 108 peo- ple with an annual payroll of $3.2 million.
