libraries, parks, camps and theatre with
shows and workshops. The company has
performed by invitation around the world,
touring Poland and performing in Russia,
Holland, Mexico, as well as Hungary where
they received the top award at an Interna-
tional Festival of Puppet Theatres. They
have also been honoured twice with a "Cita-
tion of Excellence in the Art of Puppetry",
awarded by the American Centre of
UNIMA, the International Organization of
Puppet Theatres.
On August 2 "Maskerade" with Dalia
Gesser made up of an exciting collection of
zany characters in original skits, from a
waltzing couple to a marathon race, will br-
ing to the audience a wide variety of masks
and music. Dalia's training includes six
years at Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, two
years as a dance major at Purchase Univer-
sity in New York and a season at the Banff
School of Fine Arts, and studied mime and
clowning at the Canadian Mime School.
Dalia performed in the CBC production of
'The Garden and the Cage' and has toured
with Tandem Mime Company performing at
the Second Canadian Mime Festival in Van- ,
couver and also in schools in B.C. and
Quebec. Her clever use of costumes, props,
and masks brings alive several characters
varying in age and size. Young people will
love this master of mime.
All of these very special performances
will be followed by a WORKSHOP con-
ducted by the artists themselves
Musical opens season
GRAND BEND - Canada's best known
musical, Anne of Green Gables will open the
1985 Summer Season at Huron Country
Playhouse on June 29 in Grand Bend.
This classic family musical is written by
Donald Harron, well known TV talk show
host and Norman Campbell, CBC TV varie-
ty Director. The authors adapted the story
from a novel by L.M. Montgomery.
Atule of Green Gables was originally
presented in December 1971 as part of the
Charlottetown Festival and it is still playing
to packed audiences in Prince Edward
Island today.
Forty performers are involved in this pro-
duction which began rehearsals today. Also
appearing as Children of Avonlea are school
students from the Towns of Ailsa Craig,
Strathroy, Grand Bend, Goderich, Corunna
and Exeter.
Huron Country Playhouse audiences will
fondly remember Jack Northmore and Non-
nie Griffin who appeared in last season's hit
productions. They will be starring as the
doting parents of Anne, the orphan tomboy
in the Playhouse's opening production of
Anne of Green Gables.
Anne of Green Gables, a musical that the
whole family will love runs from June 28th
to July 20 at Huron Country Playhouse. For
ticket information, please call (519) 238-
8451.
