liver 300 say good bye to Revo Pick
CLINTON - Over 300 people attended a pot
luck dinner and varitey show on June 19,
held in honor of Rev. Norman Pick who is
retiring. Rev. Pick and his wife Doreen were
presented with a clock and purse of money.
The couple came to Clinton's Ontario
Street United Church in September of 1977
from Scarborough. During their eight years
with the church, Mrs. Pick has acted as the
secretary and played an active role in the
UCW.
Since 1943, Rev. Pick has been at several
churches. His first church was in Swift
Current, Saskatchewan. From there he went
to Maidstone, Cotlrtright, Owen Sound,
Markham, New Market, Scarborough and
finally Clinton.
At the June 19 dinner and variety show,
members of Rev. Pick's past congregations
were present as well as visitors from
iltterville. Woodstock Vanessa Rnrgesville
and London.
The couple received a clock crafted by
Russell Jervis and made out of wood from
Charlie Merrill's wood lot. Both men are
members of Ontario Street United Church.
Master of ceremonies for the evening was
Clinton's Mayor, Chester Archibald.
The Pick's have decided to make Waterloo
their next home.
St. Paul's ready to celebrate 150th year
CLINTON-Ladies of the St. Paul's
Anglican Church Friendship Guild enjoyed
a pot -luck supper on June 19 at the home of
Alison Lobb, president of the Guild.
The meeting was combined with a shower
for the Friendship House in Goderich which
was formally opened last week. Friendship
House is a distress centre for battered wives
and their children. Gifts of linens,
kitchenware and food were donated by the
Friendship Guild for the centre.
It was announced that the Guild's
September meeting will be held at the
summer home of Mary Murphy, and the
annual mystery auction will take place that
evening with Bea Cooke acting as
auctioneer.
Members of the Brotherhood of Anglican
Churchmen of St. Paul's will hold their
annual Ham and Strawberry Supper on
Wednesday, June 26. As fine weather has
been forecast for this day, guests will be
able to dine outside at tables set around the
flower garden on the lawns of the north side
of the church on Rattenbury Street. Musical
entertainment during supper will be
reminiscent of "strawberry socials" of
years gone by. when old favourites are
played on one of the collection of Murray
Draper's historic music boxes. Supper will
be served from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and
tickets will be available at the church.
Rev. Gordon Simmons announced that
while he is on vacation during July, Rev.
George Youmatoff of Bayfield will conduct
the Sunday services at St. Paul's at 10 a.m.
St. Paul's will celebrate its 150th
anniversary on Sunday, June 30th, and on
this historic occasion: Bishop "Bill"
Townshend will be the guest speaker.
Seniors celebrate in style
HURONVIEW - June 17, a high -style show
of fashion, featuring color and design was
held in the Huronview auditorium.
Senior Citizens' Day took place on June 18
and guests were from Goderich, Brussels
and Bayfield. They commented . on the
delicious meal served them, after which
they were entertained by the Foghorns of
Goderich. The group of fine musicians is a
popular one and is certainly making a name
for itself through the excellent style it
• presents in its concerts. This time, the group
led by Bonnie Dunn did a splendid spoof on
politicians, in music and song.
The June birthday party took place on
June 19, and was in charge of the Women's
Institute of St. Helens. There was a variety
program beginning with a sing -song. Old
tunes were played by Elroy Laidlaw on the
violin, accompanied by Louise Laidlaw at
the piano; A humorous reading was given by
Doris Mawhinney. At the conclusion of this
program, cupcakes and tea were served. '
Mid -week Bible Study took place in the
chapel on June 20, with Shirley Prouty in
charge. Verna McLaughlin gave a reading
and Elsie Henderson and Margaret Mc-
Queen favored with a duet accompanied by
Frank Bissett at the organ. Mabel Scott
gave a reading.

Bishop Townshend was confirmed at St.
Paul's 75 years ago when he was just 12 -
years old. It is expected that several former
clergymen of St. Paul's will also attend the
service on Sunday, as well as many former
members of the church who presently live in
other parts of Ontario. Following the service
on Sunday morning the entire congregation,
visitors and friends are invited to attend a
luncheon which will be served in the Parish
Hall. This will be an opportunity for a
renewal of old friendships. The

Commemorative plates and mugs have
been made for St. Paul's 150th anniversary,
