The majority of the 32 landowners along
the 9.3 km stretch of road to be constructed
have settled with ,the county at a price of
$2,400 per acre.
Dempsey said originally three fauns were
involved in the expropriation procedures.
Stuart Keyes, in conjunction with his sister,
Ruth Carter of Woodstock and brother Mer-
ton Keyes of R.R. 4, Seaforth own part lot 29,
conc. 6, the only parcel of land outstanding.
° Merton Keyes, sole owner of two parcels
of land, part of the east half of lot 30, conc. 4,
London Road survey and part of lot :11. cone.
5, London Road survey, has, since the begin-
ning of May, settled with the county.
Dempsey said the hold-up is that Stuart
Keyes wants the $2,400 per acre plus $12 a
rod for the fence on the property. The
engineer; said the fence is "virtually non-
existent".
"He's from the Brampton area where
land value may be higher," said Dempsey
trying to explain in his own words why there
is a hold-up.
"He doesn't feel the public pressure which
makes some difference."

Grooin congratulated on conquest
wedding celebration of Mr. and Mrs.
Johnston of the Bluewater Highway on Mon-
day, when a very large number of relatives
and friends were present and a very p -a-
sant time was spent. Mr. Mutch and Master
Morgan contributed not a little to the
pleasure of the occasion by their pipe and
drum music. Master Bobby is getting to be
an expert with the drums and his instructor,
Piper Mutch takes a great pride in his young
pupil.
Mr. Alex Addison, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jos. Addison of Clinton was successful in
passing his fifth year in medicine at
Western University, taking second class
honors.

We believe we are correct in saying that
Miss Sowerby, of the 3rd of Goderich
Township, one of the finest young ladies in
the township, will today, 24th, assume the
name of Johnston in accor -,nce with the
recognized formalities in such cases made
and provided. The happy groom is Mr.
Christie Johnston of the Bayfield Road. We
congratulate Mr. Johnston on his conquest,
and the happy pair on the bright future that
awaits them within the sacred portals of the
state of matrimony. And in supreme com-
munion.
On the 5th, the Organ Co., received a
cablegram for six organs, and they had to be
in New York on the 18th for shipment on a
certain boat. The instruments had to be all
trimmed and turned, yet the work was done
and the organs are now on their way to a
foreign shore. It made the boys hustle
though.

On Friday evening about 6:30, fire broke
out in the stable at the rear of Mr.. H. Car-
rick's lot on Albert Street. The brigade was
quickly on the scene, but the flames had got
too much headway, the result being that the
building, which was frame, was completely
destroyed. It is supposed that the fire
originated from a lighted match falling in
the hay.
The Haag Show which gave two circus
performances in the Clinton park on Satur-
day last, was well patronized, over 2,500
people attending the afternoon perfor-
mance. The menagerie part of the perfor-
mance was not the strong feature, but much
of the ring work was very good and greatly
pleased the spectators. The day's receipts
were some $1,800 with the expenses at about
two-thirds of that amount. The management
reported a good business at the various
places they have so far visited in the pro-
vince.

The top storey of the County Home is go.
ing up steadily. Soon the only part of the
barn visible from the road will be the roof
and the name "1-luronco Farm" in white on
the red barn wall. We look upon it each 1 cor-
ning and in a way hate to see the chat ges
which are coming to pass. However, it the
end result is more comfort for the elder
citizens living there, any change is to be ad-
mired.

The Clinton campus of Conestoga College
will not be closing as earlier reported in a
daily newspaper, but the campus' estimated
1975-'76 budget deficit of $17,000 has sent col-
lege officials scurrying in search of cost cut-
ting the excessive costs.
