Hullett school busy

• LONDESBORO - The last three weeks of
school at Hullett Central School have been
busy with graduation activities, camping
and many field trips.
The Senior Band and the Senior Choir
went on tour June 12. They visited Brussels
Public School and Mitchell. The Junior
Band and Choir went on tour on Jwre 13.
These tours that occur at the end of the
school days have become an active tradition
among the bands and choirs of Hullett.
An 'Appreciation Tea' for Mr. MacLennan
was held on Sunday, June 16. After 13 years
as principal Mr. MacLennan is moving on to
Robertson Memorial School in Goderich.
Entertainment was presented by the Junior
and Senior Band and the Senior Choir.
Bruce Bergsma was the master of
ceremonies and the guest speaker was
Bradley Lion, a former Hullett Student. Mr.
MacLennan was presented a plaque from
the community. The plaque was hand -made
by Jim McEwing. Ralph Buffinga gave an
anniversary clock from the Hullett Bus
Lines. A penmanship award is, set up in Mr..
MacLennan's name. •
Grade 2. held a Sunshine Party in the
Library on Thursday.
On June 1$.two slowpitch teams went to
Clinton to compete in the tournament there.
Hullett didn't get any first places but they
fought to the end:
The Grade 7 class had their annual trip to
Toronto on June 21. They visited Ontario
Place and saw a game of Blue Jays
baseball.
June 20. the Grade 8 students went to the
Clinton high school to visit their classes for
•next year. •
On June 21 all the Grade 8's went back to
the bush for an outing. They cooked their
own meals and did ars interesting water
.study. •
Jurre 20, after two long weeks of prepara-
tion the Grade 8's held their graduation. The
banquet was held at the Londesboro Hall -
across from the school. After the supper was
served everyone walked over to the school
for the program. Entertainment by the
graduates was all musical. After that was
completed, the awards were handed out.
- The History and Geography award was
donated by the Londesboro Se.nior Citizens
and was won by Tracy Salverda.
-The.h"Tench award was donated also by the
I ondesboro Senior Citizens and was won by
Tanya Boonstoppel.
- The Mathematics award was won by Paul
Hoggart and donated by the Mitchell's
Family Market.
- The English award was donated by the
Summerhill Ladies Club was won by Linda
Van Spengen.
- The Outstanding Male Athlete was won by
Tins Worthington and the award is given in
memory of Ted Pickett.
- The Outstanding Female Athlete was won
by Theresa Overboe and is given in memory
of Mr. Pickett.
- The Inciustrial Arts award was won by
Robbie McCool and was donated ,by the
Londesboro Women's Institute.
- The Horne Economics award was also
donated by the Londesboro Women's In-•
stitute and was won by Dawn Riley.
- The Effort and Co-operation award
presented and donated by Mr. and Mrs.
Lee was won by Brenda Finch.
- The Top Male Graduate was won by Heng
Lee and was .donated by the Londesboro
Lions Club.
- The Top Ferrrale,Graduate - also donated
by the Londesboro Lions Club was won by
Kerry Babcock. , •
The guest speaker was Rev. Stan Mac-
Donald 'and the validictorian was Tracy
Salverda. The thence was Hawaii '85.
Well rounded recital
LONDESBORO -Students of Gail Lear, A.
Mus., Londesboro, Ont. presented their an-
nual piano recital to a large audience in the
Blyth Centre for the Arts, on May 30. The'.
performers were delighted to have the op-
portunity of playing on the new grand piano
and presented a well rounded • program of
music in solo and duet form. The offering for
the evening was turned over to the Piano
Fund. .
Everyone joined in singing Happy birth-
day to corrunemoratc "Bath's" :300th birth-
day this year. Several senior students
presented variations on the birthday theme
to snow .the development and change. in
musical style from Bach's time up to
Boogie. '
Kira Stuckey of Wingham, also delighted
the audience with vocal solos which showed
why she was a scholarship winner at the
Walkerton Festival early May. Several
other pupils placed in the top three of their
respective piano classes. Steven Coultes 'f
Belgrave was picked to perform in the
Festival of Stars on the closing nights con-
cert.
Kim Craig, of Blyth, a former student,
was back to render a beautiful Chopin Noc-
turne. Kim has now completed her. third
year in music at University of Western On-
tario.

Ham supper realizes

LONDESBORO - United Church Women
held a meeting June 17 with President
Brenda Radford welcoming all. There were
21 present. The devotions were conducted by
Mrs. E. Wood and Gail Lear played the
piano.
The business minutes of April 5 and May 8
were read by Mrs. Lorne Honking.
Correspondence consisted of thanks from
the Shaddick families, Mary Longman,
Carol and Kay Longman and Bob, Elva Reid
family, Mary Peel, Rev. Snihur for the
donation to the manse, and a letter from
foster child Lam Sue Bing.
The treasurer's report was by Mrs.
Russell Good. Profit from the ham supper
was $1,310.39, It was moved to donate $250 to
the Tornado Fund, $250 to the organ fund
and $2,000 to the Board of Stewards. The one
day Alma College will be held Aug. 19.
June Fothergill gave her report on the
May weekend at Westminister College. The
study was given by Mrs. Wood on the fourth
chapter of Matthew.
The next meeting will be held July 15.
Gr. 8 Graduation
The graduation for Hullett Central School
was held June 20. Grace and a toast to the
Queen were said by Mary Craig. The WI
served supper to 34 graduates and their
parents.
Following the banquet, Paul MacDonald
introduced the head table and the
introduction of guests and graduates and the
toast to the graduates came from Dave
Overboe. The reply was by Brenda Finch.
The introduction of teachers was by Todd
Duquette and the toast to the teachers was
from Tanya Boonstoppel. Beverly Kennedy
spoke the, appreciation to the ladies and the
reply came from Mrs. Eric Anderson.
A toast to the school board was given by
Herman Gerrits with a reply from Mr. G.
Craig and a toast to the school by Mike Van.
Hossenhoven with a reply from Mr. Angus
MacLennan.
The awards presentation was at the school
following the program featuring musical
numbers by Gr. 8 students.
Winning the history and geography award
from the senior citizens and presented by
Mr. L. flunking was 'Tracy Salverda. Mr. E
Griffein presented the French award to
Tanya Boons',sppe1, also provided by the
senior citizens.
The mathematics award was presented by
Bill Millson to Paul Hoggart from Mitchell's
Family Market; the English award was
presented by Mrs. A. Gerrits to Linda Van
Spengen from the Summerhill Ladies' Club;
Mr..and Mrs. A. MacLennan presented the
penmanship award to Julie 1Vierner; the
outstanding male athlete in memory of Ted
Pickett was presented by Mr. and Mrs. John
Jewitt to Tim• Worthington; Theresa
Overboe, the outstanding female' athlete
received her prize, also presented in
memory of Mr. Pickett, from' Rosie Cooke;
Mrs. R. Lawson presented the industrial
arts award from the Londesboro WI to

speiaker, Mr. S. McDonald. Appreciation to
the guest speaker came from Stanley
Airdrie.
Becky Redford introduced of
valedictorian Tracey Salverda. Tanya
Boonstoppel accompanied the audience for

Promotion and Awards Sunday
Greeters at the United Church on th,.
special Sunday were Rev. Dave Snihur ar
his wife Caron while the ushers were
Shannon Duizer, Denise Gross, Kathy
Kennedy and Joanne Wilts.
Rev. Snihur announced that on June 30 the
pancake breakfast will start at 9:30 and go
to 10:30 a.m. followed by a hymn sing. An
outdoor church service will be held July 7 at
Lions Park in Seaforth. Bible vacation
school will be held from July 2-6.
Those receiving diplomas were Michael

Michael Salverda, Jennifer Szusz, Dougie
Maize, Charlotte Wilts and Crystal Wilts.
Graduating • from primary to junior girls
were Kelly Bosman, Cheri Taylor and
Angela Horbaniuk and from primary to
junior boys were Billy Jim Scott, Kevin
Shillinglaw and Scott Shaddick.
Graduating into intermediate boys from
junior boys were Gerben Wilts, Brent
Radford and Murray Whyte and from junior
to intermediate girls were Theresa Knox,
Shannon Duizer, Vicki Riley and Kathy
Kennedy.
The anthem was a junior choir
presentation with Marsha Szusz as choir
director and Lisa Duizer as organist.

Margaret Taylor was a delegate to the
triennial convention of the Federated
Women's Institute of Canada June 16 to 20 at
Western University, London.
Visiting with Alice Davidson and her
mother Grace Fairey on June 14-18 were
Pearl and Roland Thompson from Gore
Bay. On June 17 Mr. and Mrs. Con Murphy
from London spent the day at the same
home. They were formerly from Manitoulin
Island and are friends of the Thompsons.
Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Burns were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bernht of
Tiverton.
Margaret Taylor attended the graduation
of her granddaughter Elizabeth Brydes on
June 21 from the three year journalism
course at Humber College.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thomspson visited on
June 23 with their family at Conestoga Laker
and attended the Memorial service at
Bethesada Cemetery Moorefield.
Dora Shobbrook spent June 20-23, in
Woodstock with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Millson
and family. On June 22 she attended the
graduation of Patricia from early childhood
education at Conestoga College, Doon
Campus, Kitchener. On Sunday morn.irfg she
attended the christening of great grandson
Robert Curtis Blake at Ontario Street
United Church, Clinton.
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Penfound attended
the June 21 graduation of Ruth Ann from the
modelling course at Humber College.
Mrs. George Hoggart had eye surgery on
June 18 at St. Joseph Hospital, London.
Friends hope for a speedy recovery.
Visitors on June 26 with Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Burns were granddaughter Vicki Dahner
and children Kerrie, Melissa and T.J. Also
visiting were Mr. and Mrs. Mel Dahner, all
from Kincardine.
Mrs. Jean Scott spent the weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Reid in Walton.
George Carter, of Hullett Township,
celebrated his 91st birthday on June 18 by
travelling to Northern Ontario. George,
Watson Reid, Ralph McNichol arjd Bob
Gardiner visited 'the Walton Hunt camp at
Lost Channel in the Parry Sound District. A
new cabin was built here in 1978 to replace
the one used for many years by hunters
going north for the deer season.
George first went hunting in this area in
1917, with Hugh Campbell. They stayedin a
tent the first fall, but a cabin was built the
following year. Hunters came by railroad
for the annual hunt. •
The four men spent four days visiting at
Sudbury, Gogarna, Shining Tree,
Gowganda, and the Buck and Doe Hunt
Camp at Purbrooke, near Bracebridge.
