Public opinion sought on zoning bylaw
STANLEY -The dates for open informal
meetings to give the public a chance to ex-
press their views about the recently drafted
zoning bylaws were set at the regular June
meeting of Stanley council.
Copies of the zoning bylaw will be mailed
to all ratepayers in the township in early Ju-
ly. Anyone with questions may come to the
Stanley Municipal Complex on Thursday,
July 18 between 2 and 4 or 7 and 9 p.m., or
between 10 a.m. and ? p.m. on Saturday, Ju-
ly 20 and talk to Cindy Fisher and other
members of the Huron County planning
department as well as members of Stanley
council.
"'This will put teeth into our secondary
plan", Clerk Mel Graham remarked.
The zoning bylaw will also formally pro-
claim the residential and restricted
agricultural designations in and around
Varna, Brucefield, Bavfield and Kiopen.
Road superintendent Bill Taylor will call
for tenders to build up the northern end of
the Brunson. This improvement will com-
plete the work to be done on that road.
Three tile drainage loans totalling $29,500
were passed, and one application for $1,500
was approved.

Herbicide to be banned in 1986
BY STEPHANIE LEVESQUE
Lasso, a popular herbicide used by
farmers across the province, has been found
to cause tumors in mice and rats, says
Huron Medical Officer of Health Dr. Harry
Cieslar.
Although not officially banned, Lasso is
under temporary registration which means
that on Jan. 1, 1986, the chemical will no
longer be on the market. However, Dr.
Cieslar said Monsanto, the company that

Dr. Cieslar said that farmers have been
using Lasso over 20 years and there have
been no signs of large numbers of users be-

"Do we want to wait and see?" asked Dr.
Cieslar.
"It's better to ban the product."
