By Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse BELGRAVE - Bouquets of carnations and peonies decorated the sanctuary of Belgrave United Church on June 16 when a special service of worship to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the United Church of Canada. Six banners depicting the various tradi- tions which came together as part of the United Church's heritage, were made by Jane Grasby, Dorothy Logan and Barbara Anderson. These were carried during the processional by John McIntosh, John Nixon, Lorne Campbell, Alice Scott, Dorothy Logan and Jane Grasby. They were followed by members of the Youth Group. A humorous dialogue, highlighting some features and events of the church's history, was presented by the members of the Youth Group, under the direction of leaders Rev. and Mrs. John Roberts. Chris McIntosh and Pat Cull acted as aides, and the various other roles were taken by Steven Dow, Robert Gordon,' Don- na Higgins, Ruth Higgins, Chris Michie, Jeff Pletch, Cathy Dow, Jason Coultes, Kerie Pletch, Alison Coultes, Katherine Procter, Heather McIntosh, Kim Rintoul, Heather Shiell, Heather Morton, • Angela Coultes, Paul Coultes and Steven Coultes. Robert Gordon expressed thanks on behalf of the Youth Group members to Rev. and Mrs. Roberts for their help . with the dialogue and for their leadership throughout the year. UCW meets The afternoon unit of the Belgrave UCW held its June meeting in the church school room. Twelve members attended. Sara Anderson opened the meeting Mrs. Ross Higgins read the minutes of the previous meeting and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor gave the treasurer's report. Mrs. Taylor was in charge .of the worship service, assisted by Mrs. Glenn Coultes at the piano. The Bible Study was continued by Mrs. William Fenton. Alice Scott was in charge of the study on Korea. A letter from missionaries Alice and Don Irwin, Seoul,. South Korea, was read by Mrs. Jim Hunter. Plans were made for the over 80 birthday partyin the church school room August 13 at 2 p.m. All friends and neighbours of the guests of honor are invited. • Grade 8 trip Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler accompanied her Grade 8 class to Ottawa on a four-day educa- tional tour. Some of the places visited in- cluded the Peterborough Locks, the Parlia- ment Buildings and the Question Period where MP Murray Cardiff met the students, the Laurier House, the Currency Museum, National Art Gallery, the R.C.M.P., Upper Canada Village and Old Fort Henry. People Belgrave friends are sorry to hear Mrs. Murray McDowell of Cookstown is a patient in the Barrie Hospital. Murray McDowell has been a patient in the Barrie Hospital after suffering a heart attack but was able to return to his home last week. Congratulations to Ethel' Wheeler, on the occasion of her 96th birthday, June 16. She celebrated at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken- neth Wheeler on Sunday. Congratulations to Howard Roberts, son of Rev. and Mrs. John G. Roberts, who received his Master's Degree in mechanical engineering during convocation June 1 at McMaster University, Hamilton. A graduation dinner was held at the Old Mill, Ancaster. Ruth Coyne, of Windsor spent a few days at the home of Mr. and -Mrs. Ross Robinson and also visited with other Robinson relatives in this area. Melanie Scott has graduated from the Three Year Diploma Nursing Course at Georgian College, Orillia. The resource centre in Mitchell reports there are Sunday School envelopes now available. It will be closed on June 21 till Sept. 3. A calendar has been posted in the kitchen for referral. Mary Humphries the other captain took in $139 Walton Public School The Grade 3 class of Walton Public School went by bus on a field trip to Goderich on June 13. The day included guided tours of • the Huron Historical Jail, Captain Fat's Fish and the Goderich Airport. Duff's Church Rev. Charles A. Swan was in the pulpit for the regular Sunday morning church service at Duff's United Church. Baptismal was held for Kendal Louise, infant daughter df Gordon and Janice Carnochan of London. Flowers in the sanctuary were in memory of the late Lois and Ray Houston. 4-H display 131,YTH - The 4-H leaders and members attended the Blyth WI on June 6 with some members, wearing their sportswear while others had it on display. The two 4-H clubs explained to the WI members what their displays and achievement night entailed. . After the displays, Kim Medd played two piano solos for those in attendance. Future dates to keep in mind are: June 16- 19, the FWIO Convention in London: June 28-30, strip quilting in Petrolia; July 8 at 1 p.m., pot luck lunch and recreation at the Clinton Conservation Area.
