The top three finishers in each event were: Jr. Boys Jeff Riley took the Jr. Boys championship with 32 points and Ryan MacAulay Was runner-up with 29 points. 100 meters: Ryan MacAulay, Steve Smith, Chris Johnson. 200 meters: Chris Johnson, Steve Smith, Jeff Riley. 400 meters: Chris Johnson, Steve Smith, Mike Josling. Fitness demonstrations at the Clinton Town Hall included performances by break dancers, modern dance and ballet, skipping, square dancing and Trim -A -Size. One of three break dancers was Jason Bennett, showing the moves to a crowd of 200. The other break dancers were Nhan Tran and David Maclsaac. ( Anne Narejko photo) Clinton 'Tykes win one, lose one in season openers The Clinton Tykes have opened their 1985 baseball season with one win and one loss. They dropped a close 16-15 decision to ®Exeter on May 25, but carne back to defeat i them 15-7 on June 2. Clinton trailed throughout the May 25 game but carne back with four runs in the sixth to close the gap. Exeter scored four runs in the top of the first with Clinton answering in the bottom with three. Scott Jewitt led the inning off with a single, followed by Jason Carter's double. Scott McClenaghan took three strikes, but Shawn Chipchase hit a homerun, scoring Jewitt and Carter, Exeter continued to hit well, scoring another five runs a 9-3 lead. Pool News The Clinton Public Swimming Pool opens June 24 at 1 p.m. The Clinton Recreation Committee is staging free swimming from 1 to 8 p.m. Make plans to be at the pool to try out the 'new pool slide. This program is open to children ages 3 to 12 years and has been planned to offer participants with a wide variety of play, sports, art and plain ole' fun activities. Well you'll be happy to know that the Clinton Recreation Department Office is located in the Clinton Public Library basement. You can enter the office from the back of the library (go down a flight of stairs). The office is open Monday to Friday 9 a:m. to 5 p.m. Drop by and see the office: Evening Trim -a -Size Attention! Tell your friends. and come out and join in the fun. Mites win second in a row The Scruton Fuel Mite Boys softball team won their second straight home game, defeating Wingham 38-11. Clinton pounded out 30 hits including seven homeruns. Top batter was Nathan Burns who, in four bats, hit for the cycle (homerun, triple. double and single) and had.four RBI's. Winning pitcher was Scott *right who threw a no-hitter for four innings giving up only one run. Next home game is June 5 against Bluevale at the Clinton Public Schol. Bantams 'loss first game of season The Clinton Bantam Girls suffered their first loss of the season on June 2, losing to T nnrieshnrn by a 12 < 4 score. An error filled first inning in which Londesboro scored seven runs and a lack of hitting resulted in Clinton's poor showing. Two changes have been made in the schedule. On June 9 Listowel will visit Clin- ton with the game set for 7 p.m. Brussels will play in Clinton on June 23 at 6:30 p.m. 1 Michael McCleneghaq Riley and Mike Michael INcClenaghan, Riley Nargane. To win, Clinton knew they couldn't allow any rung in the final inning, and they did just that. They also knew that they had to score two runs to tie. They didn't manage to do that, but they carne close. Scott McClenaghan scored one run, but the tying run, Chipchase, was left on third base. Clinton 15 - Exeter 7 The Clinton team didn't let the loss get them down as they came back to win 15-7 on June 2, I Six runs were scored by Clinton during the first two innings while Exeter was held scoreless until the third. Livermore, Jewitt, Chipchase, Scott McClenaghan and Carter scored the first inning runs with Jewitt repeating his performance in the second inning. Carter scored the only third inning run for Clinton after being walked, making the score stand at 7-0 after the first half of the third. Then it wastime for Exeter to show some life, scoring three runs to narrow Clinton's lead to four. The Clinton bats were swinging again in the fourth, scoring another four runs. - Crossing home plate were Jewitt, Chipchase•, Scott McClenaghan and Carter. The Exeter bats were also swinging in their portion of the inning, scoring two runs but leaving a man on third and second. The score was 11-5 at the top of the fifth, but Jewitt quickly increased that lead by one, scoring his fourth run of the night. Exeter nullified that run and added one more in the bottom of the inning, bringing the score to 12-7. Three additional runs were marked on Clinton's side of the scoreboard during the remaining two innings. Exeter was shutout. .
