at Canada Science Fair

BELGRAVE - Two Grade 7 East
Wawonash students had the opportunity to
compete at the Canada Wide Science Fair
held m Cornwall recently with one student
taking first place in her category and the
other finishing with an honorable mention.
Heather Campbell, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Campbell, RR3 Blyth, and Linda
Versteeg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Versteeg, RR5 Wingham were the East
Wawonash representatives.
Heather took first place in her divison at
the Belgrave Fair. From there, she went on
o finish first at the regional level in Howick
nd then won the Huron County level in
Exeter. By winning in Exeter, she was given
the opportunity to compete at the Canada
Wide Science Fair where she received the
top award; a $100 prize on behalf off the
Meterological and Oceanographics Society.
Linda received an honorable mention and
a free subscription to National Geographic.
UCW Meeting
The general meeting of the UCW was held
May 28 with Mrs. Clarence Yuill opening the
meeting. Mrs. George Michie led in prayer
and Mrs. Les Shaw and Mrs. George
Johnston, accompanied by Mrs. George
Procter, sang a duet.
The offering was received and dedicated
by Mrs. Michie. Mrs. Yuill closed the
worship service with prayer.
Mrs. John Roberts conducted the business
section of the meeting. June 3 was
announced as Camp Experience Day and an
invitation to Calvin -Brick UCW for June 19,
8:15 p.m. was accepted.
It was decided to have a box at the church
for articles for the camp and safe homes.
Mrs. Bob Gordon and Mrs. Jim Hunter
gave a report of their weekend at
Westminster.
Recycled articles are to be taken to the
church on June 15 between 9 a.m. and 12
Alk p.m. The next meeting will be held on Sept.
ler 26 with the theme World Outreach.
Mrs. John McIntosh, the church in society
convenor, chaired a discussion on capital
punishment. The panel members were MPP
Murray Elston, F.E Madill history teacher
Murray Hunter, and Rev. John G. Roberts.

Mr. and Mrs. George Michie were dinner
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Norman MacLennan
of Kitchener on May 26.
Mr. George Inglis and Agnes Bieman
attended the funeral of their cousin Hugh
Bell at the Tanner and Pearson Funeral
Home in Walkerton on June 2.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Vincent
Makas on the arrival of their daughter,
Alicia Jean on May 31. Alicia was born in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London.
Alicia and Amanda, twin daughters of Mr.
and Mrs. Howard Zettler, of RR9 Walkerton,
were baptized during the morning service at
St. Joseph Parish Church, Cargill.
Those attending the service and guests at
the Zettler home were: Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Zettler off Teeswater, Mr. . Mrs. Gary
Van Camp and family of RR4 Brussels,
Marjorie Procter of Mississauga, Arthur
and Glen Zettler of RR1 Chepstow, Mr. and
Mrs. Larry Mayberry and family of
Londesboro, Mr. and Mrs. Frank -Procter
and family of RR5 Brussels, Nancy, Tammy
and Tracy Jones of Chepstow, Charles
Speakman of Minesing, Mr. and Mrs.
Conrad Smithson of Downsview and Beth
Procter of Belgrave.
Weekend visitors at the home of Beth
Procter were her brother, Charles
Speakman and Conrad Smithson.
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Miculan of Stoney
('reek attended the Breylay-McIntosh
wedding on May .25 at Knox United Church,
Belgrave. They were weekend visitors at the
hoine of her parents, Rev. and Mrs. John G.
Roberts.
Twenty adults and 27 pupils left East
Wawanosh Public School by bus at 7:30 a.rn.
on May 27, arriving at the Stratford station
in time to catch the 9:27 a.m. train to
London.
The bus, driven by Mr. Daer, met the
group at the London VIA Rail Station and
took them onward to visit Story Book
Gardens. •
After having lunch, the group continued
on for a tour of the London Children's
Museum- and a tour of MacDonald's
Restaurant where they had a treat of pop
and fries.
June bride honored at .showers
AUBURN - On June 1 at Knox United chur-
ch, a community showerwas held for Wan-
da Plaetier of London. Wanda, the daugher
of Lawrence and Jean Plaetzer of Auburn is
being married at the familyhome on June 22
to Brian Holling.
For the community shower the hall was
decorated in blue and white, by Anita
Hallam of London and Mrs. Keith Lapp.
Mrs. Brian Hallam pinned corsages on Wan-
da and her mother. .
Mrs. Dana Bean welcomed the many
guests and called on Mrs. Robert Worsell to
lead in a sing song. Mrs. Gordon Gross
played the piano.
Anita Gross presented a hilarious reading
entitled "When Mr. Levinsky Went to The
Wedding". Little Susan Dobie performed
The Highland Fling. Kim McDowell and
Mrs. Gerald McDowell conducted an egg
stepping wedding march contest with Wan-
da and her sister Mrs. Terry Foran as the
contestants.
Mrs. Bean called Mrs. Wayne Allen of
Goderich to.the front and Wanda and Mrs.,
Plaetzer to their decorated chairs. Mrs.
Allen read an address to the bride -tope,
wishing her happiness in her new life, and in'
her new home in Markham. Gifts were
presented to Wanda by Leona Cunningham,
Sharon Million and Anita Gross.
Wanda thanked everyone and invited
them to• her r wedding reception in
Holmesville. The crowd sang "Far She's a
Jolly Good Fellow".
Guests were present from London,
Goderich, Auburn and the surrounding com-
munity.
Wanda has been feted .at a number of
showers and parties over the year. Late in
March a shower was hosted by Dorothy
Scotland of London, where friends and ac-
quaintances surprised Wanda.
On May 31, Dr. and Mrs. Frank Mader
honored Wanda at a farewell barbecue par-
ty at their farm home at Ilderton. The office
staff presented Wanda with a gas barbecue.

Shannon, Karin and Tracy Millian
presented the gifts to the bride-to-be. Wanda

Auxiliary gives 87,000 to Legion

CLINTON - Thanks are extended to
Branch 109 Goderich for supplying the in-
stalling teams for the joint installation of of-
ficers held Saturday May 25 at the Clinton
Legion.
Also thanks goes out to Comrade Gord
Yeo, piper for the. evening, and to Comrade
Bill Marsh for supplying' the excellant enter-
tainment. Following the ceremonies, Com-
rade Dorothy Flagg, newly installed Presi-
dent of the Ladies Auxiliary, presented
Branch 140 Clinton with a cheque in the
amount of $7,000.
To Comrades of the Ladies Auxiliary, one
can say only "Thank You". It goes without
saying, that this presentation represents
many hours of hard work and dedicated ser-
vice to the Legion.
"To the officers, executive, and member-
ship of Branch 140 Clinton, I urge your sup-
port and co-operation in the coming year. I
am sure if we all work together we will en-
joy a most pleasant and successsful "Dia-
mond Jubilee Year", praised Gordon Tait,
President of the Clinton Legion. .
The Provincial Convention was held in
Hamilton May 12 - 16 with the official ooen-
bills studied
There was quite a good turn out, of 15, at
the first meeting of the 4-H Poultry Club.
Members Learned how to judge eggs pro-
perly. Leader Barry, explained the proper
judging of the eggs that other members
brought in.
The next meeting will be at PaulHog-
garf.'s near Kippen at 8:00 P.M. on .June 19.
The meeting will also be on "Egg .Judging."
It's hoped that everybody who was at the
first Meeting will be there again.
Elston sworn in as MP
QUEEN'S. PARK — Murray Elston has
been sworn ► s the Liberal Member for
Huron -Brut by Roderick Lewis, Clerk of.
the Ontario Legislature.
Mr. Elston was re-elected in the May 2
general election, and will take his seat in the
125 -member chamber here when the First
Session of the 33rd Parliament of Ontario
opens on June 4.
Mrs. Elston was Critic for the Ministry of
the Attorney -General, Critic for Commer-
cial Relations, and Chairman of the Stan-
ding Committee on Public Accounts. First
elected to the Legistature in 1981, he foriner-
ly seved as Critic of, the Solicitor -General,
and as Critic of the, Ministry of Environ-
ment. He is a member of the Legislature's
Justice Committee.
Liberal Leader David Peterson welcomed
the re-election of Mr. Elston by saying that
he was pleased with the return of Mr. Elston
to work as part of a team of qualified people
who were elected as Liberals in the May 2nd
election. "Ontarians want good govern-
ment, and I am pleased to add the talents of
Mr. Elston to a caucus which represents the
full spectrum of life in Ontario."
Euchre scores
Clinton - The Monday Afternoon Eucrche
was held June 3 at the Town Hall with
several winners recorded. Ena Ship and
Mary Caldwell won high hands, Lalona
Holland and June Fothergill, low hands and
Eleanor Fisher captured the lone hands win.
Gladys Hoggarth was sitting in the lucky
chair.
