visit uron
BY STEPHANIE LEVESQUE
There was harmony and a few giggles
during the interrupted math period.
About 30 students, half from Quebec and
the rest from the host school, Seaforth
Public School, struggled over math pro-
blems and the language barrier. Both tasks
were accomplished with success.
The 15 or so students from Polyvalente
Notre -Dame -des Laurentides school in
Charlesbourg were only half of the students
who came to Seaforth as )?art of an ex-
change through SEVEC, Society for Educe-
ional Visits and Exchanges in Canada.
The exchange students were sitting in on
teacher Jean Turner's math class, before
heading out on a tour of Huron County.
The tour included stops at Eckert Farms
near Seaforth, a trip to the gaol in Goderich
and the East Wawanosh conservation area.
The students and their chapetones would
end up back at the Seaforth school for a
barbecue and dance.
One of the chaperones with the Quebec
group commented that while she hadn't
been in Huron long, she found everything
"green, green and neat".
Thle chaperone, Jeannine Samson, said
the atmosphere at the Seaforth school is
relaxed compared to the Quebec students'
school which is a junior high school. She
described Huronites as "real people".
H.'rot students, along with French
teat .•r' Julie Baldwin will be returning the
visit from June 6 to 10. Samson said the
children will be exposed to the urban life of
Que ,ec•.
Joanne Consitt of Varna was one of many competitors battling for the chance to go to
compete against her elementary school peers in long jump. Area -schools hate been
holding field days to choose the finest athletes to represent them at the higher let el.
