Walton euchre winds up

WALTON - The last euchre party of e
season was held on May 21 at the Walton
Hall in the form of a dessert euchre with
eight tables of players taking part.
Winners were given flowers as prizes for
:gh lady - Margaret Taylor; low - Alberta
Stevens; high man - Dorothy Deer (playing
as a man); low - Harold Bolger; closest bir-
thday to date - Ted Mills, Auburn; man with
most pennies - Ted Fothergill, Londesboro;
Door prize - Malinda Johnston.
On behalf of the WI, Marjory Humphries
thanked everyone for coming.
Church News
Pentecost Sunday at Duff's United was in
the charge of Rev. John Roberts, of the
Belgrave Pastoral charge, while Rev.
Charles A. Swan was the anniversary
speaker at Calvin -Brick United Church.
Greeters at the door were Paul and
Dianne McCallum. Organist was Margery
Huether.
Ushers were Ross Bennett, Dean
Hackwell and Paul McCallum. Don
McDonald was the soloist.
Next Sunday Paul Elgie will be worship
leader. June 9, the 60th anniversary of the
United Church of Canada will be celebrated,
and the communion will be observed with
worship at Walton at 11 a.m. (Please note
the change of time for that Sunday only.)
Wednesday, June 12, the U.C.W. joint
meeting will be held at the church. Don't
forget copper contest money.
June 16 - Sacrament of Baptism; June 22 -
Chicken Barbecue. Get your tickets from
any Walton 11 members; June 23 - Church
School Award Day.
Flowers in the sanctuary in Duffin Church
Sunday morning were from the Hackwells
and Marks in memory of Audrey _and Max-
ine's brother, Eldon Hulley of Seaforth, who
ted suddenly this past week.

Mrs. Hugh Johnston, granddaughter
Tracey Fischer and daughters, Irene and
Kelly Bennett of Arthur attended the wed-
ding earlier this month of Mrs. Johnston's
granddaughter, Leslie Q Colyer) and Greg
Helgason in Winnipeg. They returned to On-
tario for their honeymoon, visiting Niaga-
ra Falls and at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Johnston.
Mary Humphries and daughters Kim
Kruse, Bayfield and Wanda Stroope, Ford-
wich visited on Thursday with Mr. and Mrs.
JackBennett of Newmarket.
Viola Kirkby attended the 25th wedding
anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs.
Ron Machan in Sarnia, Saturday evening.
Mrs. Leona McDonald spent last week
with her daughter, Karen and son-in-law
Bob Warwick and family at Olds, Alberta. ,
Jean Bewley accompanied Leona when
they flew to Calgary. Jean visited her
daughter Brenda, son-in-law Dan Raven
and family at Irricana, Alberta.
A most enjoyable time was had at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Dom Dalton and
Carla at Walton on Sunday when they were
hostesses for a dinner party in honor of Mrs.
Dalton's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Parker of Hensall, who were celebrating
their 53rd wedding anniversary.
The table was decorated with roses and
carnations and centered with an 'anniver-
sary cake. Attending were their sons and
daughters-in-law, George and Judy Parker
and Kenneth and Marlene Parker, of Hen-
sall.
Explorers hold banquet

LONDESBORO - Explorer members and
their mothers held their annual banquet on
May 23 at the Londesboro United Church.
The UCW catered the meal to the 32 guests.
Lisa Kennedy thanked the UCW for the
meal. Leader Bev Riley introduced the head
table guests and the Explorer girls each
introduced their mothers or grandmothers.
Shannon Duizer toasted the mothers. Rev.
Dave Snihur said grace
Guest speaker was Joan Whyte. Yvonne
Hoggart, assistant leader, thanked Joan and
presented her with a gift.
A graduation ceremony was held with four
girls completing their Explorer work,
including Denise Gross, Tracy Kennedy,
Shannon Duizer and Lisa Kennedy.
Nine girls received perfect attendance
gifts. Michelle Dillon read the meaning of
the Maple Leaf Emblem and Pam Hoggart
displayed the Leaf emblem.
Tracey Kennedy was MC for the talent
concert and each Explorer entertained by
Tammy Driscoll 20, of R.R. 4, Walton,
daughter of John and Mary Lou graduated'.
recently from the Early Childhood
Education program at Lambton College.
Miss Driscoll was awarded the Evelyn
Atchison Child Study Association
Scholarship. for 1984-1985. This award was
named in honor of the founder of the Child
Study. Association started in 1937 by a group
of mothers who met to discuss child training
and discipline. Seven child study groups now
operate in the' Sarnia-Lambton area. Miss
Driscoll was also Valedictorian for the
graduating class ceremonies held on April
19. She is now wet -king at Tuckersmith Day
Nursery.

The village was saddened to learn of the
death of longtime Londesboro resident,
Harold Longman, 78. He died in Clinton
Hospital on May 22. Sympathy is expressed .
to his wife Mary, sister Irene Waymouth and
brothers Lloyd of 'Stratford and Carl of
Blyth.
Sympathy is also extended to Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Hulley on the. death of his brother
Eldon, 51, of Seaforth on May 22.
Sympathy is extended to' Mr. and Mrs.
Bev Bromley on the death of Mrs. Bromley's
brother, Peter James Doherty, 21, of RR 3
' Goderich. He died on May 22.
Bob Peel's father, Chester Peel, 78, died
on May 20 at St. . Joseph's Hospital in
Chatham. Sympathy is extended to the
family.

week with' Mr. and Mrs. Mel Sutherland at
Pembroke.
Pat Stackhouse of Woodstock was home
on the weekend. She was maid of honor at
the Snell -Taylor wedding, held at the Blyth
Anglican Church on May 25. Mr. and Mrs.
Vic Stackhouse were among the guests who
attended the wedding and reception at the
Goderich Township Community Centre.
Visiting on May 26 with Mary Longman
was her sister Thelma Burleigh and her
. daughter Joan of Goderich and Brenda
Burleigh of Mitchell.

Pentecost Sunday was observed at the
Londesboro United Church on May 26. Rev.
Dave Snihur and Laura Scott welcomed the
congregation: Ushers were Fred Peel,
Bryan Howatt, Brian White and Michael
Radford.
On June 2 Rev. Snihur will attended the
London Conference meeting in Leamington.
Youth Sunday will be observed at
Londesboro United Church and Bill Jewitt
will be the guest speaker. The youth group
members will assist.
The church official board is scheduled to
meet on June 4. The congregational life
meeting will be held on June 11.

Calvin -Brick Church celebrates

-BELGRAVE - The congregation of Calvin -
Brick United Church celebrated their an-
niversary on May 26 with visitors from Knox
United Church in Belgrave, and former
members and friends.
The morning service was conducted. by
Rev. Charles Swan of Walton. Special music
was provided by the junior choir. Susan
Wathike of Desboro played the saxaphone
and was accompanied by her mother on the
piano. .
The orgainist for the service was Mrs.
Norman Coultes and the pianist was Mrs.
George McGee..
WI meeting
The agriculture meeting of the Belgrave
.Women's Institute (WI) was held on May 23
at the WI hall with the president Mrs.
Leonard James in charge:.
Guest speaker was Flora Nabrotsky,
owner of Flora's Flowers in Teeswater. She
spoke on gardening and gave tips on fer-
tilizers, plant diseases and uses different
herbs.
In other business the WI agreed to make a
donation to the Salvation Army Red Shield
Appeal. An invitation was received to attend
a special meeting of the Maitland WI
Branch in Wingham on. June 23 to mark
their 10th anniversary.
The Belgrave WI will cater to the Grade 8
• graduation banquet of East Wawanosh
School on June 24 and will entertain at the
Callender Nursing Home in Brussels on
June 13.
UCW study Korea
Sara Anderson opened the May 14 meeting
of the UCW Afternoon Unit. The meeting
was held at the home of Mrs. Jim Hunter.
Olive Bolt led the worship service and
Olive Campbell continued the Bible study on
Luke. The study of Korea was taken by Jean
`Pattison and Mrs. Ross Higgins.
The members were reminded that the WI
will hold the annual birthday party in
August.

the 25th wedding anniversary of their
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Montgomery of Guelph.

the Broys Olde Town Restarant in Elmira
on Sunday:
