Clinton News-Record, 1985-5-22, Page 20Page 18—CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, MAY 22, 1985 Sports From the stands By Anne M irejko Conditioning pays off When most people think of exercise they think of sports. Either running, skating, cycling or throwing a ball. But as Trirn-A- Size and other such dance -exercise oriented programs have shown, there are other ways. But dance programs don't have to be used just for recreation, they can be used as a way ta develop a talent, such as step danc- ing or Highland dancing. As everyone knows, Klompen Feest was held in Clinton last weekend, and one of the many highlights were the dance numbers, The Shannon Preszcator Step Dancers varied in age, but they all showed energy, enthusiasm and talent when they were on stage, as did members of the Cheryl Bromley Step Dancers. Their many hours of practicing to get every step perfect, showed. But those hours were also used to condition their bodies. Anyone can memorize steps, but to be able to keep up the pace for any length of time is hard. If you've ever been out on the dance floor, hopping and jumping to a fast tune, you'd know this to be a fact. My en- durance is usually two songs in a row, any more than that and I'll have sore legs for the next few days. Maybe I'm just letting myself get out of shape, but I had to admire the stamina the • dancers showed.
