How CAA •
Travel Agents can serve you
Tell Your Travel Agent
It will help you to ob-
tain maximum benefit
from your travel
agent's expertise if you
carefully clarify your
travel requirements,
likes, dislikes and your
degree of flexibility. For
example, some travellers
just want sunshine, but
if you would also like to
experience a different
culture, participate in a
specific sport, or have an
adventure holiday, make
your wishes- known.
Your travel agent can
then advise you on the
facilities available in
various price ranges and
may be able to suggest
special opportunities
plus new resorts and
ideas too.
Some of the points
you might cover during
your first visit to the
travel agent's office are:
• Why you are
travelling
• Your budget limita-
tions and time restric-
tions
• Your favourite ac-
tivities and preferences
• The destinations or
type of holiday you have
ii mind.
Ask Your Travel Agent
To obtain the best ser-
vice from your travel
agent and the most
satisfaction from your
travel arrangements, the
following are some ques-
tions you may want to
ask:
O How soon should
the ° reservations be
made?
• What are the
cancellation provisions?
• What requirements
must be met to par-
ticipate in an excursion
or charter flight?
• What happens if
the flight is missed?
•
Do the tour
operator and travel ser-
vice suppliers have good
reputations?
O What type of ac-
commodations are
available?
• Are meals includ-
ed?
• Are there any
taxes, gratuities or other
charges to be expected?
• What does the
sightseeing tour in-
clude? How long does it
take? Are admission
charges paid?

When visiting a
foreign country, you'll
never get your money's
worth, if you don't know
what your money is
worth. By following a
few simple guidelines for
exchanging your money
for foreign currency, you
can save both time and
money when travelling
abroad.
It is a good practice to
try to calculate how
much you will be spen-
ding while away. If your
hotels are pre -paid, you
still need to estimate ex-
penditures for meals,
shopping, excursions
and transportation.
Closely estimating how
much money you need
can help keep you from
converting too much in-
to foreign currency.
However, if you do have
to.. convert additional
funds in the country you
may have to pay for ad-
ditional service charges.
Plan on purchasing as
much foreign currency
travellers cheques as
you need in the currency
of the country or coun-
tries you are visiting.
They are nearly as con-
venient as foreign cur-
rency because they can
be cashed almost
everywhere since no cur-
rency conversion is re-
quired. Like Canadian or
U.S. dollar cheques,
they are a safeguard
against loss or theft of
your money during your
trip.
It is always a good
idea to have some U.S.
or Canadian dollar
travellers cheques in ad-
dition to foreign curren-
cy. A mix of both gives
you flexibility if the ex-
change changes to your
benefit.
When cashing your
Canadian & U.S.
travellers cheques
abroad, you should use a
main bank where you
will be given a com-
petitive rate. Hotels,
restaurants and shops
are not in the money
changing business and
are likely to give you a

lower rate of exchange.
A good rule of thumb
is to also carry with you
$50.00 to $100.00 worth
of local currency when
you arrive in a foreign
country. A supply of
$1.00 U.S. bills can also
be useful too as they are
recognized all over the
world and can be used as
tips.
On your way home,
try to convert as much
foreign currency into
U.S. or Canadian curren-
cy. It is often difficult to
find a bank in Canada
that will exchange
foreign currency.
However, foreign cur-
rency travellers cheques
can be exchanged easily
upon your return.
Remember, foreign che-
ques are redeemable at
the current rate of ex-
change which may be
higher or lower than
when you bought them.
Travellers cheques are
available at any one of
your CAA offices with
no service charge to
members.
