We do not need to give all
the reasons why Scott's
Emulsion restores the strength
and flesh and color of good
health to those who suffer
from sick blood.
The fact that it is the best
preparation of Cod Liver Oil,
rich in nutrition, full of healthy
stimulation is a suggestion as
to why it does what it does.
Scott's Emulsion presents
Cod Liver • Oil at its best,

New York, Jan, 27. -The Mel-
bourne correspondent of The Times
says; A project of great magnitude
has just been launched by the South
Auetralian Governmeat. • It is for
the construction of a railway Ivhich,
joined to the lengths already built,
will connect the Indian with the
South Pacific • Ocean. It is to run.
from south to north through the
State of South Australia, or
through what is called the Northern
Territory, The length of the lino is
to be 1,200 miles, and the line is to
be constructed on a gauge of 8 feet
6 inches, and is to be capable of
carrying traIlic at a speed of twenty
miles an hour, including stoppages.
It is estimated • to cost 46,000,000
(880,000,000). Tenders are to be
invited frorn Australia, the United
States, Great Britain, Prance and
Germaay. Eighteen months are to
allowe& for the preparation of
tenders. The syndicate taking up the
contract will, in return for the ex-
penditure of £6,000,000, be granted
territory to the extent of 75,000
acres per mile, or altogether 90,000,-
000 acres.
The area is far larger than the
whole of Great Britain and Ireland,
or New Zealand, There is no stipu-
lation as to the natioeality of the
syndicate; consequently the ceded
territory may be settledl upon either
by Britishers, Araericans, French or
Germans. The race must be white,
as, according to the laws of the
Commonwelath, Colored immigration
Is forbidden.
The line will run, of course,
✓ through some of the hottest parts of
O Australia., • The scheme has received
the approval of the South Austral-
ian Parliament, and the Goverrunent
*PI at once take steps to bring it
un.der the notice of capitalists. About
5,000 people live in. the land to be
covered. by the preposed railway ser-
vice.

It was known that one of our worthy
citizens, Mr. James Stasacombe had
passed away, after a brief nines of
scarcely one week, Heart failure was
the direct cause of his death. Mr.
Staticombe was a son of the late Wm,

and was born in Devonshire, England
August 14th, 1833, He came to Ca
a.da, when at the age of 21 years. He
was twice married, and by his first
marriage there remains three sons
and five daughters, grand -children of
• the late Jonathan Adamson, of Nas-
sagaweya. He was a man of a big
heart, generous, and not capable of
doing anything unworthy of a patriot.
He was married over five years ago
to lihs now sorrowing widow, and dur-
ing his short residence here, has won
the esteem of all with whom he came
in contact. His mother, an earnest
christian woman, died, when he was
only eleven years old, but so -well had
she trained her son, that the effect of
her teaching and example followed
him all through life, and for forty
years he has been a faithful member
of the Methodist church. He was al-

had for years patiently borne the disgrace,

marvellous remedy for the cure of druekenness,
which I could give my husband secretly, I de-

mixed it in his food and coffee, and, as the
remedy was odorless and tasteless, he did not
know what it was that so quickly relieved his

flesh, his appetite for solid food returned, he
stuck to his work regularly, and we now have a

A Happy and
Prosperous New Year
Is what we all expect and desire.
Begin by making the home
bright and cheerful, and if your
family are musical, you cannot
add to the brightness and cheer
of home more than by placing in
it a Piano or Organ. It will not
only add cheer to the home but
will help your children to take
their proper place in the social
and business world when your
aid is withdrawn from them.
